Deep dark maroonish brown under a generous foamy beige head. Full rich aroma with dark sugary malts with some winter spice and plums. The flavor has a bit more herbal notes than what should be necessary, but with some dates and Belgian dark malt sweetness. Itís a bit generic, albeit full.

Tap at Fremont. Nose is toasted and roasted grains, earth, chocolate, light dark malty sweetness, and spicy floral hops. Dark auburn, thin to no head. Chocolate malts, roasted and toasted husky grains, earthy bitterness, peppery and floral hops in finish. A little thinner than other winter warmers, but I like that it could almost be sessionable. Solid beer.

Can - pour is dark ruby, almost black - substantial, dense, off-white head - nose of toffee, hazelnut, tobacco, dried fruit, a hint of smoke - pretty intense flavor profile - equal parts sweet, toasty, and bitter - dark bread, toffee, roasted nuts - wintery spice profile, which is impressive, since there are not spices used - a bit of tobacco - lightly warming alcohol - spicy, moderately bitter finish - I am very much enjoying this.

Draft @ Collins Pub, I think. Black and stout looking. Tan scattered lace. Chocolate malts and minty hops blend in the aromas. Silky palate. And flavors also no nonsense chocolate malt and unpretentious.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2012 22oz bomber from Elise. Opaque brown-black. Thin beige head. Mellow mouthfeel, subdued carbonation. Chocolate and caramel tones dominate, with a nice well rounded hop bill offering balance and depth. Chewy dark Brown Ale. A mellow beast, this is quite malt forward for a West Coaster. Some piny gingerbread, toffee. Subtle and unique. Some syrupy black malt tones, some brown sugar. A lot going on, but the tastes really merge together.

Can shared by Bob. Lightly sweet malt and some alcohol, and the hop presence is noticeable. Solid beer.

22 ounce bottle thanks to Prufrockstar. Dark black body. Tan head. Chocolate up front followed by a hoppy build. Roasty. Veyr nice.

On draft at the brewery. Mostly clear amber brown pour, with a tan head. Sweet malt, milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, a bit sugary, dates, plum, somewhat grassy, and moderately bitter finish. A little to sweet for my liking, but seems to be a good base for barrel aging.

Guest tap at Pike. I wrote down Abominator so hopefully the right one. Dark beer with light head and good lacing. Strong dusty strong malt aroma. Creamy slick body and very nice light chocolate and coffee.
