Tap at Fremont. Nose is toasted and roasted grains, earth, chocolate, light dark malty sweetness, and spicy floral hops. Dark auburn, thin to no head. Chocolate malts, roasted and toasted husky grains, earthy bitterness, peppery and floral hops in finish. A little thinner than other winter warmers, but I like that it could almost be sessionable. Solid beer.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle at Dan’s is dark brownish almost black with thin tan head, aroma brings notes of dark fruit, caramel, toffee, some roasted caramel, earthy tones, bitter nuttiness, touch of mineral notes. Taste is a nice mix of caramel, biscuit, roasted sugar notes, touch of dark fruit with some raisins, plums, hints of chocolate, finishes fairly smooth and slightly sweet.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this beer and for 5000 for sending me another bottle of it. The beer pours a dark brown color with red highlights and a tan head. The aroma is full of roasted malt and chocolate with some nice cream notes mixed in as well. The flavor is similar. The beer is very chocolatey tasting and there is also a nice amount of roasted malt. There is also a little bit of mint in the flavor, which goes well with the other flavors. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy to fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, light hoppy, orange. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120320]

Pours dark brown, nearly opaque, nearly black, with a thick, foamy, lasting light-tan head. Aroma is not particularly potent, consisting of sweet malts, roasted malt, and chocolate. Flavor of roasted malt, mild chocolate, mild toffee, not overly sweet, with a subtle hop bite at the end. All very balanced and mellow. As far as winter ales go, this is one suits me better than most.

Bottle:   For an English Strong Ale, its very Stout looking.   Black, moderate to large frothy light beige head, nice lacing.   Soft roasted malts, a little bit of biscuit and burnt caramel malts.   A little spicy on the tongue, very soft roasted malts, smidgen of alcohol.   Its like a pale Stout, with a Pale English Strong Ale, mated with some muted or dulled all-spice like flavors.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Clean finish, soft roasted malts and a bit of spicy biscuity malt background.   Somewhat of an odd duck, but all the flavors blend well.   I enjoyed it more than I thought I would as it wasn’t overly sticky or heavy.

Nitro at The Pine Box, Seattle. Deep brown, foamy tight head. Porter sweetness, some coffee. Roasty, smooth body. Sweet esters, coffee, milk chocolate. Medium body. Hops are a little too subtle in this nitro version. Nice beer.

Can @ a recent bottle share... Poured dark reddish-brown with an off-white head. Tasted of toasted sugars, chocolate, roast, and an earthy hop spice. But not too bitter. Not overly complex, but a great drinking winter ale.
