Dark Star is part of our Imperial Series and is inspired by the wandering tribes scattered through the terrible journey of time in space and adrift in the dark matter between the spaces of then and now. Dark Star is a dark, mysterious yet silky oatmeal stout of grand proportions balanced by a firm hop handshake...go ahead, enjoy the journey...Because Beer Journeys Matter!

Very dark brown pour. some tan head. Aroma coffee, grains, lactic creamy dark roasts. Tastes coffee, char, very dark for a oatmeal stout. slight lactic caramel. slight woody tanins. watery like palate noticeable heat and alcohol. Flavor is a bit mild compared to aroma.

Bottle:   Black pour, moderate to large light brown head, fairly nice lacing.   Soft sweet roastiness on the nose, seems like some oatmeal.   Has a slight lactose like sweetness as well.   Smooth, roasty, light sweetness, a touch of ash or campfire.   Not real thick, but seems to have a silky texture.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Mineraly finish.   Otherwise clean, silky, flavorful and easy to drink a full pint of.   Seems more like a larger Oatmeal Stout to me.   Decent.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, tiny bubbled, beige head, with extensive lacing, over a clear, very dark brown (SRM 35) body......nose is heavy roasted malts, with coffee, chocolate notes, tobacco, also including hints of plum, raisin, slight sweetness, light resin notes from the hops, no esters, balance to the malts......taste is lactose sweet, with tobacco, chocolate and coffee from the roasted malts, light plum, raisin, finishing with a light hop and roasted malt bitterness, minimal esters, malts dominant......mouth feel, medium body, slightly sticky, creamy from the oatmeal and carbonation, alcohol warmth present. This is neither as big nor complex as the best in the style. It is a well made, good tasting, beer that is more of an Sweet Oatmeal Stout than a plain old Imperial Stout. To correct to a more typical Imperial, perhaps more base malts and a bit more caramel/crystal would help, but then the hops would haave to be strengthened. BJCP 9/3/13/4/7

Can that has been sitting in my fridge for at least six months. Today the temperature dropped below 70 degrees for what feels like the first time in months and so a dark beer wasn’t entirely out of the question.

Dark star crashes, pouring its light into ashes, which, presumably, were used to flavor this one.....

Sorry, I was just interrupted by my daughter who had found a video of a cockatoo dancing to Elvis. Which, by the way, was far more entertaining than this beer or most beers, for that matter. Google it. But yeah, your typical "session imperial stout", not mega imperial, plenty tasty, whatever, whatever. No flaws, just not really my thing.

12oz can pours oily dark black brown with 2 finger dark tan head. Nose is bitter dusty dark chocolate and some wet brownie. Taste has light but not thin mouthfeel, some roasty brownie and bitter chocolate, wet coffee, char. Finishes with some round dark fruit, earthy dark coffee and baker’s chocolate, semi sweet cocoa. Enjoyable.

12 oz single can from Molly’s Spirits. Black appearance with a big light brown head and sticky lacing. Aroma of roasted grain, bitter chocolate, black malt, light coffee and light earthy hops. Similar flavor, with a mild to moderate roasted bitterness and notes of licorice and molasses. Medium to full body with a lingering finish. Solid stout overall.
