On draft at the brewery. Dark brown, near black pour, tan head. Milk chocolate, roast, ground coffee, a bit watery, and mild bitterness. Ok, I’m not terribly impressed.

From can thanks Andre! In a snifter, black with large light brown head, big chocolate nose, some yeast, notes of dark fruit, plum, some roasted barley. Medium body, medium sweetness, light bitterness in the finish, more roasted barley on the finish along with dark chocolate. Tasty offering.

Can. Pours black with deep tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate, roasty, sweet, lots of cocoa. Taste is full bodied, bitter throughout with a touch of sweet upfront, medium carbonation. Overall, very good.

Extra from wchesser. Black pour with big splashy mocha lace. Medium sweet with bold roast, some cocoa, hint of char, creamy maltiness. No frills deliciousness. Smooth sipper.

Great-looking beer. Tan head with micro bubbles over an opaque blackness. Lusciously rich and creamy texture. Flavorful and complex with notes of milk chocolate, vanilla, toasted bread, some char and tar, and a healthy amount of roast. Smooth booziness warms the throat. Great beer.

Bomber. Rich, roasted malt and chocolate aroma with hints of coffee. Pours inky black with a large light brown head and a little bit of lacing. Starts with excellent roasted malt and chocolate flavors as well as a little bit of oats. Very slick, thick mouthfeel. Finishes very smooth with the aforementioned flavors sticking to the palate with some coffee sneaking in as well. Excellent stout!

From the tap at Fremont on 10.01.14. A: Chocolate, coffee, and nuts. Maybe some vanilla. A: Midnight black body with no red in the glass. Tan head with nice lacing. T: Milk chocolate and mild coffee dominate. Nuts on the back end are subtle. P: Creamy smooth with bubbles on the back end. O: This is a nice stout, as it should be since it is the base version of the awesome BBAKDS...errr...BBADSAKAKDS (Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star aka Kentucky Dark Star).

Can. Pitch black pour topped with a thick layer of light brown foam. Mostly dark chocolate, oats and roast malt in the aroma with a bit of brown sugar and herbal hops in the background. Flavor is coffee, smoky roasted malts and bittersweet chocolate upfront along with some citrus rind and toffee around the edges. Overall, a solid base beer for their amazing barrel-aged creations.

Tap at Fremont - black pour with a tan lace - well-executed and balanced imperial stout - creamy texture, full body - approach is medium sweet, with a lot of chocolate character - middle to finish develops some acidity and dry roastiness that balance and round out the flavor quite well - tasty.
