Opaque black color, small beige-brown head. Lots of coffee, some dark candy in the aroma. Medium to full-bodied. Coffee, salt licorice, roasted maltyness. As always, oat makes stouts smooth. This is very pleasant oatmeal stout.

Tap at Fremont, Seattle - 08/11/12. Very dark mahogony brown bordering light black with a thin tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, light chocolate, leather, dark fruit, mollasses. Tastes of chocolate, roast malt, liqourice, sweet dark sugars. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a sweet roast finish.

Sample at the brewery taproom. This brew pours brownish-black with a medium foamy tan head that recedes slowly. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body with flavors of burnt malt, coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is roasty with a mocha aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

[3/2/15] Draught at Fremont Brewing in Seattle. Black with brown foam. Roasty aroma with some coffee. Roasty flavor, rather sweet, with coffee, chocolate, caramel, and a bitterish and slightly ashy finish. Full-bodied. Very nice.

CaN, at work while washing kegs .. . Dark black .. Awesome cream foam .. . Dark roast, tar, creamed toast, and black gums .. . Perfectly balanced and utterly homicidal. Great beer! .. . . Why was vanilla ice so popular? You people forget about chocolate..? even strawberry is acceptable!?!

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy/creamy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (almost opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately to heavily malty (roasted/burnt grain, coffee, unsweetened chocolate), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, resin), with a note of charcoal, light note of blackberry. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, creamy/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Well shucks, this is pretty darn nice...itís a roast bomb to some degree, very charred and coffee-ish, but there are some other subtleties in there as well so itís pretty fun to sniff. And in the mouth it works well too...good balance and mouthfeel, enjoyable to drink. Has some minor rough edges and it isnít terribly exciting or full of depth, but itís a solid stout (I might not call this an Imperial stout, but no matter).

Bottle: near opapue with a small fading head. Lovely macadamia nut, wheat bread, chocolate covered raisin, herbal and flowery vapours. Twangy and nutty with lush sweet malts. Oily and smooth. Fun beer

Black body with tan head. Burnt malt, tobacco, dry chocolate aromas. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice milk chocolate, honey sweet flavors with dry chocolate, mild tobacco astringence to balance--very good
