3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, USA - NOV 6, 2011
Bottle:   Golden IPA, clear, large frothy white head, nice sticky lacing.   Huge zesty and citrus peel nose.   Hops are secondary, and in fact aren’t too strong.   On the tongue the hops aren’t too bright.   Seems a little stale, or at least rather musty.   Not a bright example of an IPA.   The citrus is stronger on the nose than on the tongue.   Seems to me to be more of a Pale Ale.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes smooth, very clean, with mild bitterness, and very soft citrusy sweetness.   Good, but not as robust as I would have expected for an IPA.   Yeah, this to me is a nice clean Pale Ale with a great citrusy nose.   Oh well...

A gift from SJ. A nice different little IPA. I liked the tangy fresh orange peel / citrus taste. Smoe hops add to the blend.
It was a tad thin, but good.

22 ounce bomber pour. Amberish color with a white head. Starts out great, but then fades, a nice drinking ipa though.

Solid IPA. Nice hops aroma. Good malt flavor and added hops for bitterness. I get the floral and fruit flavors. I do not however get the bat/wood flavor. Easy drinking IPA. Good dry finish with a zesty fruit flavor.

Cool concept, and I’m glad they brewed another batch so I could give it a try. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a smallish head. Mandarin orange and pine resin on the nose. Seems like this is a bit heavy on the bittering hops, and not on any that add much to the aroma/complexity -- and you can definitely taste a bit of the maple wood. One downside is that the maple doesn’t do good things to this one as it warms -- this is meant to be served cold. Good summer IPA? Yes. But it’s a bit eccentric for my taste.

Bottle from a trade with 5000. Pours slightly hazy burnt orange color with off white head. Grapefruit rind, pine and lemon aromas with a hint of beady malts. Bitter grapefruit and pine flavors. Medium body with average carbonation and a slightly dry finish. Thanks Andre.

Draft at ncbc. Pours a hazy burnished medium amber. Loose sudsy white ring. Sheets of lace. Sweet and gorgeous peach and apricot nose. Creamy medium body with restrained carb. Caramel, peach, and apricot mid palate. Long resiny finish. Great fruity refreshing ipa.

Pours a golden orange, white head. Nice, strong citrus zest aroma hop aroma. Light caramel and and biscuit body with an odd, but not too unpleasant, nutty and musty note. Zesty citrus hop finish, floral notes, moderately bitter resin. There’s a touch of woodiness, but I’m really not sure if I’m just imagining it since I’m trying to detect that maple wood.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bhensonb (7583) - Woodland, California, USA - SEP 2, 2011
Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours hazy amber gold with a slight creamy off-white head. Aroma of mild zest over light caramel. Well, maybe not mild zest cause my nose is reacting. Med body. Frothy carb. There’s a lot of citrus zest, orange even. The caramel is pretty far down the line. This is possibly hoppy, but the zest/peel bitter is so strong that that’s the main flavor. Not getting any wood, but hardened maple is supposed to provide flavor? Where’s that coming from.
