Aroma of bourbon soaked fudge. Pours a thick black with a short lived tan head and fine abundant lacing. The taste is wonderful! Bourbon, chocolate, toasted malts, with a touch of bitterness in the finish and a grainy aftertaste. Extremely smooth full bodied mouthfeel accompanied by soft carbonation. Overall, while expensive, it was a real pleasure to taste. Very very easy to drink. EXCELLANT!

Bottle from John - thanks! Black pour with quickly fading dark tan head. Aroma is clean, sweet bourbon with vanilla and alcohol spice over roasted and bitter chocolate, oats, light hop bitterness, and sweet malt. Taste is bourbon up front with vanilla and alcohol spice followed by chocolate, roast, oats, and light sweetness. Clean mouthfeel with a relatively dry finish. Very nice bourbon barrel aged imperial.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours black with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The aroma features big-time coconut and fudge. Full-bodied and silky-smooth with lazy carbonation. The moderately sweet, decadent flavor offers a mixture of fudge, vanilla and pouch tobacco. Finishes sweet and chocolaty. Many thanks to biggsbowler for sharing this world class baby with the South Florida Brew Crew!

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Smurf2055 (610) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 17, 2012
Had a sip of this at Back in Black at Brouwer’s, and again with a mini tasting with a Portland BA.
Pours black with a finger of tan head, not much retention, and some good carbonation. Pretty stout.
Smell has all the strong bourbon flavors a big barrel beer lover would look for. It’s a bit of a sweeter smell, not boozy, but a lot of bourbon vanilla and a tiny hint of red fruit.
Taste is fantastic, you can still get a lot of the base beer (which I enjoyed). I think that’s why I prefer this to Bourbon Abominable, which was an absolute Bourbon bomb, so much so that I could only pick out hints of the base beer. This one, while more subdued, catches the best parts of the bourbon flavor without it overpowering a fine oatmeal stout. Creamy, grainy, caramel, vanilla, and roasty chocolate.
The mouthfeel is also incredible. It doesn’t bombard the palate, it doesn’t have a lot of heat (an imperial oatmeal stout), so it’s a lot easier drinking than you might expect.
Overall, the best bourbon barrel beer I’ve had from Washington, and something to be very proud of.

This was a BA stout that was on the sweet side, but was warm and dry for a nice balance. Rich, complex and filling. Cheers!!!
