COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Imperial Oatmeal Stout aged in 15 year old single use Kentucky Bourbon Barrels. The roasted and chocolate malts compliment the smooth oats to bring you a stout delight wrapped in gentle embrace of Bourbon Barrel aged warmth. A touch of sweetness dances in balance with the hops to finish with a wave and then she’s gone.

Down & Dirty: 2-Row, Roast Barley, Crystal-60, Chocolate, & Carafa-2 malts with Flaked Oats and Magnum, Wilamette & Cascade hops. 9.5% ABV

A BIG thanks to Matt for this one! Un liquide noir et riche coule de cette bouteille qui nous semble à tous être sans fond. Le liquide exige un certain temps de décantation mais lorsque ce noble processus prend fin, c’est une jolie mousse pleine de promesse qui s’offre sous nos yeux émerveillés! Cette bière se résume en deux mots: Bourbon Bomb! Un nez plutôt étroit et unidirectionnel de bourbon et d’une torréfaction importante. C’est profond. Dans l’obscurité totale, je sens du chocolat (noir bien sûr!) et un fond de menthe dû à l’alcool lorsque mes respirations se prolongent. En bouche une effervescence importante me fait sursauter. Ormis le cacao poudreux et plutôt sec, ce liquide est un prétexte pour déguster du bourbon étiqueté comme étant une bière. Un alcool chaud et étroit. Malgré son manque de complexité (surtout si je la compare aux différentes variantes de la même série), cette bière est une réussite totale dans l’orientation qui la définit. C’est intense et j’aime ça!

Poured a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was of barrel and dark fruit. Flavor similar, light chocolate too, bit not super complex.

Black with minimal beige head. Full silky body. Intense chocolate, bourbon, light vanilla, a bit of oats, molasses, mild roasted malt. Finish is sweet and lingering mild bittersweet. The booze is rather well hidden. Real nice.

dark brown creamy brown foam. Aroma caramel, soy, chocolate, bourbon. Tastes milk caramel, choco, spicy oats. sorta simple, but smooth as hell.

Draft at the brewery. Somewhat thin deep black pour, small, bubbly, beige head. Nose and flavor bring definitive bourbon to the fore, overshadowing the creamy chocolate foreground of the base beer. Alcohol is immediately apparent, to a degree I found slightly offputting. Also, how does the base go from 8% to 14.5%? Must be a different initial brew recipe. Boozy and slightly sweet, although still tasty. Ultimately good, but not worth the hoopla.

Alpha and Omega. - You may have read that I abused this bottle. Freezer time is not a great idea for any beer, and when I discovered my error, I contemplated the price and the difficulty in obtaining this, as well as my love for a damn fine BBA oatmeal stout. Freezing this bottle was a horrible nightmare, but I’m trying it despite the abuse. Fremont, forgive me. - I cut my way through the soft wax and gently pry open the cap. Of course, I can’t imagine the aroma would change that much, and it hasn’t. Heaven in the form of oak laden vanilla and chocolate accented bourbon waft through the air above the neck and as I pour, the aroma explodes. More later. - The body is a deep umber and tipping the bottle allows the brew to cascade slowly into a rising, tawny foam, dense and soft. I want to dive into this, but I resist the temptation. A slow, deep draw rims my upper lip with the frothy head, the creamy liquid coats the inside of my mouth, imparting flavors of nutty vanilla, oak and chocolate, while insinuating itself into the deep places under my tongue. A boozy sting is nibbling at the tender flesh of my gums, but this is so drinkable...so damn easy to swallow. I’d describe this as an umami taste, but the bourbon is there to cradle my taste buds with a sweet finish. - Considering the aroma, flavor, texture and taste, I have to say this beer didn’t suffer a damn bit in my freezer for three days. Everything about this bottle has been as amazing as the previous Fremont brews I’ve been luck to experience. Even the carbonation was spot on despite the fact that this brew was a solid only a week ago. There’s no reason, at this point, to think that there is a contender for this brewery for a BBA oatmeal stout. I need more. Perhaps Seattle is a good place for a "next move"? -

A very good bourbon barrel stout. Pours a super thick black with a toasted brown head. Smells of bourbon, oatmeal, vanilla and hazelnut. Taste is very thick and creamy, with lots of vanilla, oatmeal, with a finish of alcohol and hazelnut. Stomach warming. Had in the bottle.

22 oz bottle, vintage 2015, 14.5%. Purchased at Colorado Liquor Mart and poured into a snifter. Jet black appearance with a small, lingering, dark brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, toasted oak, light char, caramel, vanilla, light coconut, toffee, cocoa, molasses, roasted malt, light licorice, light bourbon and a hint of dark fruits. Similar flavor, rich, complex and fairly sweet with light bitterness and a hint of alcoholic heat. Full bodied with soft carbonation and a smooth creamy feel. Definitely a sipper, it took me about 3 hours to drink it all.

Draught at the brewery, 11/8/15.
Tan head tops an ebony body with lighter mahogany edges and a seemingly moderate clarity (though there’s no light to hold it up to).
Bourbon and oak are noted right away in the nose, but they aren’t obnoxious and there’s a quick follow up of light prunes and burnt caramel/toffee. Vanilla, mild but noticeable alcohol, and a good balance of roast, bourbon and chocolate notes. The hops are noticeable too, adding light orange and even some lightly dank, more resinous notes.
Bourbon is light in the flavor, thankfully, with soft, silky oak and wood notes pitted against a more oily, but chewy roasted barley and oat-like texture. A lightly salty, somewhat burnt caramel character is noted in the flavor, as well, and is absolutely stunning. Good attenuation on the beer keeps it drinkable, for its size and it ends without any cloy/syrup or general heaviness. Very nice, and very flavorful without being overdone. Glad they had it available, as I’d wanted to try it for a long time.
