Another excellent IPA from Fremont Brewing. Unusual, strong, and very pleasant aroma of hops, flora, and citrus. Taste is a bit understated, especially compared to the strong aroma: a little malty, a little orange, not very bitter. Would’ve preferred more hoppiness than maltiness. Smoother finish than other IPAs. Would not have guessed 8.5% without the warmth that builds after a few sips.

Amber pour, half finger white head with good retention and lacing. Unique smell. Almost like a rainy flower garden. There’s a touch of spiciness in there somewhere too, that evokes strong comparisons to calendula in my mind. It just so happens I grew up playing in my mom’s garden and loved eating calendula, so I take that as a good thing. There’s some juicy tropical fruits hiding behind this front. Quite tasty. Not as pronounced or distinct as the nose might lead you to believe. Just enough sweet backbone to support the floral and spicey hops. Spicey bitterness slips for a split second into alcohol before righting the ship and reasserting itself as smoothe and drinkable. Finish is bitter and a bit bready. Crisp and drinkable, as they tend to be. I look down and all of a sudden my glass is almost empty. Nice sweet/bitter lingering. Would love to try it on tap.

Draft at Brewery. Really nice citrus hop aromas. Lots of sweet fresh oranges that taste really good. A little dirty and dry in the finish. This beer is great on draft and just good in the can.

Can from Bob’s.

I know, I know --- what on earth am I doing rating another DIPA? But I much like the brewery and I’ve heard such good things about this one in particular that I needed to try it. The result, while not a disappointment, is not a surprise either. Pretty straight forward c-hop DIPA, tons of pine and a bit of citrus in the aroma, flavor a bit on the sweet side, none of the leafy aromatics of my favorite examples of the style. Perfectly good for what it is, but no better.

22 oz bottle- Pours hazy orange with a two finger bone white head. Aroma is citrusy, a little earthy, grassy. The taste is citrusy, resinous, very hop forward without being too bitter, fairly easy drinking. Body is medium and carbonation is also medium. I think a fresher bottle would warrant a better score, but this is in date, less than three months old, but i prefer my IPA’s less than two months old, i am definitely obsessed with dates when it comes to this style, still not bad for a free beer!

Tap at Ballard Beer Company, Seattle. Pours a hazy gold with a white head. Light piss, tangerine, light caramel, light pine. Medium body, medium carbonation. Caramel, tangerine, pine, grapefruit, toast, light marmalade... Nicely balance, a light sticky sweetness but not too much. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled 24JUN14 Well, I’ve had this one draft before and was very happy with it. This seems like a different beer. Pours a mildly hazed apricot colored ale with a solid creamy top and lace that is just outright tacky. Smells dank, with mostly lots of vienna character, some tea, a little bit of resin - fairly pedestrian. Flavor is bitter with sweet alcohol, plenty malt, and little resin - this must be over the hill (too bad it can’t hold up for 9 weeks. Medium bodied with moderately high carb and a semi dry finish. I am disappoint.

Hazy golden amber color, dense frothy white head. Light citrus, heavier pine, grass, caramel malt, and some herbal undertones. Bitter and maltier than it should be. Soft carb, medium bodied, and resinous. Some booziness in the finish.

Can straight to the dome. Road beer! Huge hoppy aroma - grapefruits, lemons, biscuit, light caramel, light grass, and weed. Taste is big sticky grapefruit skins and oranges, light resin, bread, caramel malt, lemons, and grass with a big bitter finish. Medium body with crisp carbonation. Solid DIPA.
