COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fremont is the self-proclaimed “Center of the Universe” and Universale, our flagship product, honors the namesake of our unique location. Universale Pale Ale offers a distinctive Northwest twist on the classic pale ale, using a select blend of organic Gambrinus pale roasted malt and Old World malts balanced with classic Northwest hops to achieve a heavenly beer of rich malt flavor and subtle hop spice. This is beer. Enjoy.

I was very disappointed by this beer. I was expecting way more, based on the reviews here. It was not so hoppy, with a bland taste. Even though it was fresh, it sure didn’t taste as one.

Nice. Agreeable. There’s nothing to write home about, but it’s sufficiently flavorful. No one will be offended.

Bottle @ the medicinal shop. Pours a golden orange appearance with a frothy, cream colored head. Slightly piney, sprucey, herbal, moderate citrusy aroma. Slightly twangy, orange citrusy, herbal, soapy flavor. Not as good as some of their other offerings. Would like to re-rate on tap.

Draught @ Fremont Brewing, Seattle, WA

Pours clear yellowish orange with a small head. Aroma of citrus, orange peel, zesty fruits and earthy notes. Taste is crisp, zesty and lemony with some grainy maltiness and earthy notes. Finish is malty and earthy with some grassy notes. Okay.

22 oz bomber into a snifter glass. Pours a clear amber with two fingers of sudsy bone white foam. Moderate lacing and retention. Aroma is predominantly grassy and piney hops with light fruit notes and faint caramel malt. Taste is piney with grapefruit and some caramel. Light bitterness with a dry finish despite being very sweet. Thick and full mouth feel which is surprising for a pale ale. Overall this is a very good beer that is highly drinkable. Thanks Ryan!!

Can shared by Bob - thanks! Clear light golden pour with a smaller head. Syrupy citrusy aroma, a little bready. Smooth. Pretty solid.

Poured from 22oz bottle at home. Orange and clear. Good fruity taste, mild hops, orange and vanilla notes. Like this, especially for being a pale ale

Canned: earlier Good toasted corn color with a solid quilt of light creamy foam leaving behind some ropes of lace. Herbal hops with a tea like character on the nose and some english crystal malts remind me of an old ale. There is also a small amount of detergent in the nose for me along some grass. Flavor is mostly dry tea leaves and some sweet malts alongside a bit of bitterness. I think with a bit of CaraPils, this one would actually make a really nice ESB, but it’s not doing it as an APA for me. Medium bodied with slightly slick feel. Overall drinkable, but think their Summer version should be the headliner. Serving type: can 08-03-2012

Pour from a 12 oz can. Big white head over a clear amber pour. Lots of white lacing on the glass. Citrus and slight pine nose. Lots of citrus in the taste. Slight lingering bitterness. A bit floral on the finish.

Tap at Fremont. Pours a clear, bright golden with webby lacing. Nose has the brewery’s characteristic weedy skunk note universal in their hoppy stuff along with some raw brewhouse/sweet wort boil. It doesn’t bother me- makes it feel rustic. But for others this may be seen as flawed. Taste is full biscuit balance, beautiful malt showcase as always with this brewer. Thick mango, marmalade, grilled papaya, huge sourdough biscuit. Balancing, beautiful. Shows a lot of brewer aptitude.
