French Broad Brewery’s interpretation of the classic UK Extra Special Bitter. A bright copper color with a complex malt palate is complemented by traditional British hops, notably East Kent Golding. French Broad has made this classic public house session beer a cult classic with its skull and crossbones artwork.

Draft to pint at French Broad (thanks Andy). Looks good; a transparent copperish orange with thin eggshell lacing. Smells of malt biscuit, like a lager yeast. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. A solid ESB.

Can. Copper clear and bitter. Nice and sharp. Different yeast than American beer obviously but not Belgium like. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft. Pours a clear amber-orange with a small white ring of head that leaves no lace. Nose involves caramel malt, spicy and earthy hop notes, maybe a touch of peach. Some sweetness, but a bit more bitterness. Light side of medium bodied, cleansing palate, with a crisp herbal bitter finish. A nice brew, subdued but tasty.

a much maltier esb than i was expecting, almost like a brown ale or a smoother amber. bright somewhat tangy flavor. an above average, if somewhat off kilter, version of the style.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with small off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is wheat grass and light hop. Thin mouthfeel with a strong grain malt and light earthy hop. Decent
