COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
French Broad Brewery’s interpretation of the classic UK Extra Special Bitter. A bright copper color with a complex malt palate is complemented by traditional British hops, notably East Kent Golding. French Broad has made this classic public house session beer a cult classic with its skull and crossbones artwork.

Hazy caramel with fair, creamy beige head / Nose of fresh sour malt / Medium body, somewhat chewy with a touch of sweetness, and with good malts balancing some bitterness on the good finish / Flavors of fresh sour malt and flowers, with a big dose of caramel, and with citrus notes underneath / Not a classic esb, but an outstanding.pale ale.

Draft, Barley’s Taproom, Asheville, NC and again at the French Broad Brewery Tasting Room The BEST ESB I’ve ever had! Wonderful hoppiniess with a crisp finish.

Nice alternative to doing a super trendy pale ale. Smells bready with a little dark fruit. Taste nice and clean with a big hop finish

22 brought back to Maryland from Asheville, NC. I really liked this beer. Mouthfeel is very silky, has some bready/yeasty characteristics. Hops are in balance with the alcohol. All in all, a very drinkable beer.

22oz bottle in a flute. Sandy fingers-thick head and thin lacing over light, coppery body. Aroma is quite malty. The 13 rebels must be the incogruous notes in the aroma. Many are fruit, there’s also (in no particular order) bubblegum, soap, floral, and other good things. Taste is salty and some bitter. Palate is a little lively with a bitter finish. French Broad _très bonne_. _.

Hazy copper with a thin but lasting beige head. Medium body and carbonation.

Aroma: pale ale malt, goldings, crystal malt.

Taste: pale amber and crystal malt, mild herbal golding hops, tartness, and minerality.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2013 Medium amber, decent head. Roast and caramel aroma. Flavor matched. Roast notes really shown through without going into coffee territory. Very good balancing bitterness. Quite nice for a style I am picky about. RERATE: 1/2/13 - seemed to be almost identical to my previous bottle, but this was fresh tap at the brewery. Surprisingly the same.
