From tap at Brewery. Pours dark grown with small head. Aroma was roasted malt and chocolate. Taste followed with some sweetness and finished with a bitter note. Clean.

Beer #16 Asheville trip (not counting re-rates by the way). Pours a very, very deep brown, black at first glance. Flavor and aromas match - light chocolate, some coffee, balanced. A bit thinner than I would have liked, but nice.

I got this porter in a recent trade but can’t remember for the life of me who sent it, thanks to whoever you are. Dark black color, boring smell that only briefly suggested malts. The flavor however was malt heavy, robust, not bad at all but I am a huge sucker for any porter. Overall I would not purchase this beer but I was happy to have had the opportunity to try it. Bomber. Deep brown body. Frothy, beige head, rapidly diminishing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Tartness in finish. Taste of coffee and roasted malts along with cardboard. Lingering bitterness and a lingering off-taste of soy sauce. Lots of better porters out there.

The aroma is very toasted with coffee, chocolate, earth, and grassy hops. The appearance is dark brown with a small head. The taste is like the aroma but with a metallic astringency. The palate is smooth. Overall a decent beer.

The aroma reveals the presence of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Dark colored, nearly black with light lacing. Predominantly dark chocolate and coffee flavor. Flavor was not heavy and it seemed to disappear from the palate rather quickly. Overall, a drinkable beer, but not one that made me want to go out of my way to buy another. I would try this beer again if given the opportunity.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2012 Tap @ French Broad. Black pour, thin brown head. Roasted grain scent. Loads of burnt malt flavor. Hints of chocolate. Heavy bodied. (3427)
