3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber--pours a real dark brown with with froathy, tan head, lacing lasted throughout the drink. The aroma starts with roasted malts and once that fades, chocolate comes to the top. The taste was simliar with a floor of hops and coffee. Some nut taste comes through on the finish. Everthing is balance and straight forward. Another good brew from French Broad.

Dark brown/black pour ... not cloudy but almost opaque from the dark color. Nice tan head that quickly fades. Aroma of kalua, chocolate and alcohol. Sweet Chocolate mocha flavor with a soft bitter finish (slight hint of ashtray). Medium bodied (thinner than I expected) and fairly high carbonation level (soda like). Tad bit of astringency. Nice. French Broad is becoming one of my favorite NC breweries.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
A full flavored but very drinkable portal. Pours very dark opaque brown. Aromas of creamed coffee, heath bar and brown sugar. Full mouthfeel lending towards sweeter toffee notes. Finished slightly tart and sweet.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured into a pint glass.
3.0 A: Black color. First pour gave me a huge head and the second pour resulted in two fingers of tan, foamy soda pop-like head. Retention was not good, but the last quarter inch made a good effort to stick around londer. Sparse and irregular lacing.
3.5 S: Dry, cocoa powder chocolate vibe. Roasty with hints of coffee. Minor crystal malt sweetness. Pleasant, but simple and borderline boring.
3.0 T: Taste is like the nose. Calm, simple, and reserved. Cocoa powder again is the frontrunner with roast, coffee, and crystal sweetness to follow. No sign of hops again.
3.0 M: Light body. Carbonation is a good bit higher than what is preferred. Not creamy at all, but smooth.
3.0 D: Iím not pissed that Iím drinking this, but I really doubt Iíll ever buy another bottle. Thereís too many good beers out there to drink a boring one.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Gailís Hops & Grapes in Hickory, NC, opened 4/13/11. Pours a clear very dark brown color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of rich chocolate notes, roasted malts, faint nutty notes. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, bitter citrus and floral hops, nutty finish. Medium bodied. Straightforward porter, but very well made. I can imagine myself sitting at some bar in Asheville putting back pint after pint of this stuff.
