A deep dark stout with a very thin moka head. In aroma, chocolate and some fusel alcohol, wood extract, a bit of funk. In mouth, an ashen chocolate with bitter grape peels, a bit off. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011.

Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - FEB 4, 2010
On tap at the brewery. Pours a nice deep near-black with a decent tan head with some lace. Aroma is very earthy, ashy burnt notes, Belgian phenolic yeastiness, leather and earth- dark bittersweet chocolate, some harsh roast and light smoke. Flavor is light smoke, phenolic, burnt and roasted malts, light fruitiness, some tar and tobacco leaf smoke, and a mostly smooth finish. Not bad- took a bit to get used to and get into.

Pours an opaque black color with no head. Aroma is chocolate, fruity, and roast. Flavor is malty, caramel, fruity, yeasty, some chocolate, and a bitter earthy finish.

On draft at the brewery. Dark brown pour with mahogany highlights and fair mocha head. Sweet chocolate cake aroma. Sweet milkyness. Sweet and sour flavors offer an interesting duality. I just wasn’t that into it personally.

Sampled from a growler from the brewery. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Fair head retention and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and bitter hops. Very bitter taste with notes of chocolate. hops and a milky note. Some fruity notes as well... green apple and cherry. Full bodied.

Pours black with thin tan head. Aroma of yeast, and raosted malt. Taste has sharp, spiciness to it. The spices and the yeast do not mix well in this.

durhambeer (2099) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 29, 2009
Draught at the Fed in Durham. Surprised and pleased to see it there. Seemed pretty true to style... dark brown/black pour with creamy light tan head. Slightly earthy roasty pour with more yeastiness than would be expected in most stouts, and a thinner body. Creamy, roasty, yeasty, and a bit nutty, I’d say. Solid.

On tap at the Federal in Durham. This one appears black with a good dense head. The aroma is a bit earthy with some roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is mostly coffee with a good bit of earthiness and a drying finish. I could take or leave this one.
