COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rare 100 wheat beer, this Belgian is drier and less sweet than most. It’s perfect on a hot summer day.

On tap at the brewery, Asheville NC, 7 July 2006 at 5.0%. Fairly pale colour with a modest haze. Mainly citric with less of the banana ester and spice feel than usual. Quite fizzy with a sort of soda water / Alka-Seltzer feel. In common with the Pilsner and the Marzen, this was a clean and easy drinking effort, if a bit lacking in character.

pale yellow, thin fine white head, nice spicy aroma with bits of citrus and coriander, big body for a wit, light slightly sweet malt flavor, nice balancing spices, a bit of out-of-place tartness in the background,

Draught at the brewpub. Pours hazy yellow with almost non-existant white head. The aroma is banana, zest, and, erm, meadow. The flavor is more zesty than anything. The malts manifest themselves as crackers, and the finish is kinda dry. Definitely nothing special.

Draught. Pours light gold, just ever so slightly cloudy with no real head. The aroma is pretty sweet with hints of pear, banana, and perfume. It’s quite weak in the mouth, but has faint suggestions of banana, cereal, cork, and apple peels. Even given the warm weather, this wasn’t even that refreshing. One should expect just a bit more flavor and complexity from this style.

From notes 10/6/03: A dull cloudy orange-yellow with a frothy white head. Aromas were the usual garden variety witbier characteristics, albeit a bit muted. Orange, banana, citrus, clove, and coriander were apparent to me. The flavor was spicy, but lacking the oomph of real zestiness. More orange, with hints of coriander here. There was a good deal of banana flavor as well. Prickly mouthfeel with the feeling of peppercorns. An overall average take on the style. Most attributes to this beer seemed to me to be muted and dull when compared to others in the same style.

Pale yellow, no head. Aroma of orange (they put a twist of range peel in the glass before pouring, which may explain that) and a slight herbal note. Flavor is orange again, with coriander and um, cedar, maybe?Has a funky lambic character, as well. Sampled at 2005 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam.

A pale yellow color with a light spicy nose. Good mellow flavor that goes down smooth. Otherwise, not much interesting about this.

This Witbier is right down the middle. Nothing wrong here - nothing complelling. It is sweeter, fruitier than its dry and spicy cousins, but only slightly.
