jrob_21 (887), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 5, 2008 This is one style I would love to see more of. Bottle back from Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville. Pours a deep mahogany color with very little head. Nutty, toasty, and sweet are the best words to describe this flavor. Aroma is nutty again with a little bit of purple fruit, plum and prune, hiding in the background. rman18 (174), South Amboy, New Jersey, USA Oct 5, 2008 I was not all that impressed with this one. The flavor was just off. It was a dark copper color. It was smokey and I did not taste any hops. Nice aroma was better then the taste. biznizness (704), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Sep 30, 2008 I loves me a good scotch ale, but this was just already. Didn’t really pack the rich maltiness that I love in my scotchmen. freekyp (820), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours a gorgeous copper with a massive frothy beige head. Nice sticky lacing. Aroma is earthy, but not peaty, with a nice nutty character. Flavor is a bit sweet with a snap of bittering hops in the finish and aftertaste. Fully bodied, this one is so drinkable its dangerous. Very good, but I’m still missing the smoked peat flavor typical of the style. Beerlando (1352), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2008 Pours a dark and murky brown color with a small, foamy, off-white head. Soapy spots do their best to stick to the glass, but most fail. The aroma is more toasty than most Scotch ales, scorched caramel malts and dark biscuit showing where peat smoked malts normally would. Earthy, grassy hops lend bittering balance to the mix. Flavors continue, more darkly toasted caramel and biscuit coming through, along with those same earthy hops. Medium bodied, this one is slightly over-carbonated and underwhelming overall. Decent, but pretty boring on the whole.
