Our Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale is based on our Wee Heavy Scotch Ale recipe, but with a little more-er alcohol. This traditional Scotch Lowland ale is one of our most popular brews. Some of you may remember the original Wee-Heavy from the days when North Carolina brewers could not brew beers containing more than 6% ABV. We would like to take a moment and thank the people of Pop-the-Cap for all their hard work. Gold Medal - 2002 World Beer Championships, Chicago

Draft. Pours a dark copper with a sticky off-white head. Smell is toffee notes with some butter, wood and off phenol notes. Taste is toffee, dark fruits, tangy hints. Mouthfeel is full with medium carbonation. Not memorable, but not bad.

Type: 12-oz. can Glass: Manzanita pint glass From: Total Wine & More in Ballantyne (Charlotte), N.C. Price: $2.49 Purchased: Sept. 9, 2014 Consumed: Sept. 15, 2014 Misc.: N/A Poured a dark mahogany semi-opaque color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki-tan frothy lacing. Healthy dose of bubbles coming up from the bottom at lots of different locations. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass. Average-to-above average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.80) Smelled dark apple, caramel, toffee, red apple, Scotch whiskey, dark sour fruit and apple juice. Apple I tell you. (Smell - 3.80) Tasted similar to the nose. Got dark apple, red apple, apple juice, caramel, toffee, light butterscotch, Scotch whiskey, honey and more dark sour fruit. (Taste - 3.53) Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. Alcohol was well hidden. (Feel - 3.87) This was a better than average scotch beer, although I feel like I slightly overrated it (without looking at the eventual ratings). (Overall - 3.79) 3.68 83 B

12 oz. can from Lighthouse. Something was off here. It pours a clear brown color with an off white head. The aroma is fruity with green apple, plum and phenols. More high alcohols, chemicals and artificial sweetener as it warms. Ugh. The flavor is bitter and sour with some lactic plum and bitter toast. A little more sour apple. Iím hoping this is a packaging issue and itís not supposed to taste like this. Pretty undrinkable.

Can from a trade with Collin. Thanks! Poured into a snifter at home. Deep amber that was not quite opaque. Aroma is unique with bread dough, pie crust, wood, nuts, varnish, and leather. The taste is wood chips, dough, pie crust, caramel, bark, and booze. The finish is fairly light, but some booze and wood. Medium body. Kind of a weird one.

(Backlog) Bottle, thanks to jtclockwork for helping me figure out which beer this was. Hazy dark pour with light head. Spice, wood, dark malts, sweet tones.

Appearance: pours with a thick tan head, the beer is a very dark brown with hues of maroon or ruby at the edges, head dissipates pretty quick Aroma: creamy, sweet, dark roasted malt, smells good but faint Taste: some toasty grain, a slight bitter finish, not very sweet, pretty good Palate: average carbonation, moderate mouthfeel, leaves mouth dry Overall: kind of a simple scotch ale but itís really good, highly drinkable, the alcohol is very well hidden, not overly thick on the tongue like some other scotch ales

Sample @ French Broad during RBWG. Deep amber pour. Roasted malts, sort of ashy. Honey and toffee sweetness. Pie crust dropped in compost. The taste has some bitter dark roasted coffee character. Almost ashy. Toasted nut and peanut brittle. Toffee. Smooth and oily, substantial. Nice effort.

Can to tulip. Looks good for the style; a semi-transparent amberish brown with foamy off-white head. Smells malty with notes of caramel. Tastes like it smells with a bit of roast/toast. Average on the palate. Okay.

Had on tap at the ball game. Just average for me. For a beer with a heavy-er in the name I expect darker, fuller mouthfeel and less carbonation. Pours an amber/brown somewhat transparent color. Aroma is mostly sweet malt - toasty, caramel, toffee. Easy drinking and somewhat balanced but too much on the malty team for me. Not much complexity. Not bad, just not all that interesting.

Draft at the brewery during RBWG. Pours a clear dark amber to brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have, well, malt, malt and more malt. Caramel, toasted bread, mild earthy notes, hints of buttery toffee. Decent, but no complexity here.

Nice smooth beer. Good amber coloring. Great with food or just hanging out. Drink this one regularly.
