Our Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale is based on our Wee Heavy Scotch Ale recipe, but with a little more-er alcohol. This traditional Scotch Lowland ale is one of our most popular brews. Some of you may remember the original Wee-Heavy from the days when North Carolina brewers could not brew beers containing more than 6% ABV. We would like to take a moment and thank the people of Pop-the-Cap for all their hard work. Gold Medal - 2002 World Beer Championships, Chicago

22oz bomber from the brewery during RBWG. Poured a thinner density foamy super light beige head sitting on top of a deep brown body with orange/brown edges. Aroma is earthy, peat, light chocolate, bad citrus, wet old mowed grass.Flavor is actually a bit better with lots of similar notes. Earth, peat, chocolate, some old grass, dough, touch of nut shell and tea. Solid, better with warmth.

Draft at the brewery taproom during RBWG 2014 - Asheville. Pours clear brown with a modest, mostly-white foam head. Very tasty stuff with a rich malt character, including notes of ripe fruits, dates. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Creamy texture. Sugary finish with mild warmth, bread, alcohol, more well-ripened fruits, dried fruits. Quite tasty and nicely executed for the style.

Taster at the brewery (RBWG). Nice toffee presence. Some odd cereal grainy notes in the flavor, but some nice sweetness and peat overall. On another note, thanks to the welcoming staff who put out a meat and cheese plate for us!

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear deep amber with a light brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of earthy grain with a bit of bread and hay. Flavor is similar with an earthy dark grain and a bit of a hay note.

Taster on tap at the brewery. Clear burnt orange color. Thin off-white head. Some ropes and dots of lace. Nice caramely malt notes, lightly spicy. Some toasty flavors. Some bitter, moderate sweet taste. Medium to bigger body, lightly slick. Smooth, lighter carbonation, kind of crisp. Solid scotch ale, but not outstanding for the style.
