3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Illini08 (541) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - FEB 24, 201022 oz. bottle. Hazy, brown pour with lots of little particles floating around and a big off-white head. Very yeasty aroma with some roastyness and sweetness in there as well. Flavor is similar - very sweet. Doesn’t quite highlight the malt like many scotch ales. It’s more of a belgian candy sugar sweetness. Smooth and drinkable though.

First beer of Brevard Summer 2013. Bomber, Ingles supermarket. It’s brown, it’s a little fizzy, but tastes a little like flat cola. The price was right. I am alone on the porch; nobody else is here yet. It’s raining. Life is perfect.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Cybercat (2519) - Georgia, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Comes out of the tap a reddish, barely translucent dark chocolate brown with a decent wheat head. Aroma has roast malt, molasses and clove notes with a hint of horehound. Flavor has malty, earthy, caramel, cloves and horehound notes of varying strengths. Firm, heavy texture has plenty of fizz. Wee heavier, way more enjoyable.

I am still uncertain as to what differentiates a Scotch Ale from regular old Brown Ale. I am sure that disqualifies my rating from being of use. Of course, I will proceed anyway. Poured just on the light side of medium brown with a very light head. Malt and notes of burnt coffee in the flavor. Mouthfeel was thin. Bomber - Ingles Supermarket - Brevard, NC

650mL bottle, pours a dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of light brown sugar, some slight whiskey malts, and caramel malts. Flavour is fairly light, with some slightly sweet caramel malts, some light whiskey malts, and some metallic notes. Fairly light-bodied for a scotch ale, with an inoffensive flavour profile. Decent stuff, but pretty weak.
