Very smooth taste, almost no bitterness. Good color and flavor, but leaves something to be desired.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Can. Just an average Scotch Ale. Amber color with not much head. Aroma is a malty, caramel, dried fruit smell. The taste is where it falls flat. The flavor starts off fine. Caramel and such. The after-taste is terrible. Chemical-bitter taste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From a 22 oz bottle this poured a rich red-amber color with a beige head. No appreciable lacing. Nose of caramel malts, and ripe dark fruit. Medium body. Flavor oaf rich malts and a little bitterness in the finish. Good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rich, deep hazy brown coloured body with a very hazy glow of lighter brown at the bottom and a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of nuts, alcohol, paint, pecans, earth and some milk - quite pungent. Medium-bodied; Assertive flavour of cherries, lemons, turpentine, grass, nuts, alcohol and toasted malt - all over the place, really. Aftertaste shows a complex melange of citrus, malts and caramelised sugars, naturally not making sense together, but working sort-of in a kind of funky mix. Overall, a decent beer with some odd flavours - some work and some donít, but a decent beer to try if you like the style, since itís atypical. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Cary, North Carolina on 02-August-2014 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington on 22-September-2014.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Manzanita pint glass
From: Total Wine & More in Ballantyne (Charlotte), N.C.
Purchased: Sept. 9, 2014
Consumed: Sept. 15, 2014
Poured a dark mahogany semi-opaque color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki-tan frothy lacing. Healthy dose of bubbles coming up from the bottom at lots of different locations. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass. Average-to-above average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.80)
Smelled dark apple, caramel, toffee, red apple, Scotch whiskey, dark sour fruit and apple juice. Apple I tell you. (Smell - 3.80)
Tasted similar to the nose. Got dark apple, red apple, apple juice, caramel, toffee, light butterscotch, Scotch whiskey, honey and more dark sour fruit. (Taste - 3.53)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. Alcohol was well hidden. (Feel - 3.87)
This was a better than average scotch beer, although I feel like I slightly overrated it (without looking at the eventual ratings). (Overall - 3.79)

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
12 oz. can from Lighthouse. Something was off here. It pours a clear brown color with an off white head. The aroma is fruity with green apple, plum and phenols. More high alcohols, chemicals and artificial sweetener as it warms. Ugh. The flavor is bitter and sour with some lactic plum and bitter toast. A little more sour apple. Iím hoping this is a packaging issue and itís not supposed to taste like this. Pretty undrinkable.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Can from a trade with Collin. Thanks! Poured into a snifter at home. Deep amber that was not quite opaque. Aroma is unique with bread dough, pie crust, wood, nuts, varnish, and leather. The taste is wood chips, dough, pie crust, caramel, bark, and booze. The finish is fairly light, but some booze and wood. Medium body. Kind of a weird one.

(Backlog) Bottle, thanks to jtclockwork for helping me figure out which beer this was. Hazy dark pour with light head. Spice, wood, dark malts, sweet tones.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: pours with a thick tan head, the beer is a very dark brown with hues of maroon or ruby at the edges, head dissipates pretty quick
Aroma: creamy, sweet, dark roasted malt, smells good but faint
Taste: some toasty grain, a slight bitter finish, not very sweet, pretty good
Palate: average carbonation, moderate mouthfeel, leaves mouth dry
Overall: kind of a simple scotch ale but itís really good, highly drinkable, the alcohol is very well hidden, not overly thick on the tongue like some other scotch ales

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample @ French Broad during RBWG. Deep amber pour. Roasted malts, sort of ashy. Honey and toffee sweetness. Pie crust dropped in compost. The taste has some bitter dark roasted coffee character. Almost ashy. Toasted nut and peanut brittle. Toffee. Smooth and oily, substantial. Nice effort.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Can to tulip. Looks good for the style; a semi-transparent amberish brown with foamy off-white head. Smells malty with notes of caramel. Tastes like it smells with a bit of roast/toast. Average on the palate. Okay.
