Pours dark dark brown with huge, coffee coloured head. After settling in, the foam is very creamy. Coffee and caramel aroma, pleasant. Flavour is toasted caramel with a quite insistent bitterness which makes it an almost tart but very tasty experience. Very good beer.

750 ml bottle. Pours black with a resilient, thick, beige, creamy head. Aroma is red wine, fruits, roast. Flavor is sour, candies, granny smith green apple, chocolate, roast and coffee. Finish is green apple, roast, coffee, dark chocolate. Medium body, velvety and oily mouthfeel, weak carbonation. Surprisingly sour, but still pretty good.

pours unclear very dark brown with a tall crema head, sticky lacing - abnormal. very chocolatey and vinous-like aroma, burnt nuts, lots of cherries, wild leathery bretts, red grapes, red stone fruits, woodsy if not woody, dry molasses, slightly earthy and peppery. average carbonation if not a bit foamy, light to medium body, lightly piney-peppery-bretty finish. nicely infected, i.e. proper initial brew for bugs to make it work and to give a tasty result.

330 ml bottle from Les Vignerons, served in a snifter glass. (8.9% ABV). Pitch black, no light passing through, and a huge, creamy, forever lasting dark beige head. Odd aroma in the first few sniff, I can’t really detect if it was funky, sour or simply very hopped. Anyway, it become normally roasted, with a hint of smoke/ash, some spicy notes (cinnamon and vanilla), bitter dark chocolate, perhaps some coffee notes as well. Mild bitterness upfront and there actually is a little acidic edge (not sure if intentional) but it works quite well cleaning the palate. Roasted and hoppy finish, more so than a typical IS. The mouthfeel could be bigger tho. Soft carbonation, medium body, oily texture. Quite different, quite difficult to understand, but very pleasent anyway, especially after 30 minutes+ in the glass.

Saluti RM

The head is robust and brown, the body black. It smells creamy, intensive, roastaromatic, bit hoppy, darkmalty. The taste is darkmalty, creamy, very intensive roasty, bitter chocolate.

Ottima!!

mcberko (7245) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 8, 2013
22 oz. bottle, pours black with a huge tan head. Aroma brings out smoked malt, roast and some bittersweet cocoa. Flavour brings out loads of roasted malt, smoked malt, some licorice, and a little wood. Quite smoky and woody after you drink more. The carbonation is too high for the style, making it less than easy drinking. Pleasant enough flavours, but the carbonation pulls this down a few pegs. Good, but flawed.

75 cl. sehr dickflüssig, Schokolade, Röstmalz. Der Hauptteil ist tiefgehend, voll, intensiv. Der Nachgeschmack ist lang, intensiv, trocken. Röstmalz mit leichter Säure. Toll intensiv und gelungen! --> 14/12/13/14

My Bottom Line :
Pickle flavors don’t go well with roastiness and bitter resins. Either this bottle was poorly treated or there was a problem with the brew from the onset.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A slice of foam sits atop the pure darkness.
-Roasted malts are well developed, but are bothered by the finishing acidity.
-The nose doesn’t show the problem as clearly as the flavor profile.
-The mouthfeel is otherwise rich but not obese.

Bottle.

(Rating #5018)
