1. Cask Handpump at Hops Belgian Style Cafe Bar, Crewe 30/01/2010 Roast aroma. Dark red coloured and fruity with some alcohol present. A little dryness and bitterness in a lasting roast finish. 2. Cask Stillage at the Community Centre, Tarporley 30/01/2010 Some roast aroma. Black and a little rich on the palate with some alcohol present. A little bitterness in a roast finish.

Bottle 500ml - Jet black, no head. Burnt malt aroma. texture is quite thin but has quite an oily feel. Flavour is burnt, smokey malts and coffee. It’s a shame that it’s too gassy as it really affects the taste of the beer.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, day 3 on 2 December 2010. Deep red colour - not quite opaque. Quite roasty in the aroma and flavour. Maybe a shot of milky coffee. Nothing particularly stood out but this was a decent easy drinking stout.

Bottle. Black and slightly acidic. Some maltiness but no definite flavours. Quite bland but a nice label, especially if you area train enthusiast.

Cask, Telfords Warehouse, Chester. Vey dark mahogany tinged brown with a small tan cuff. Aroma of burnt toast and coffee. Malty flavour with more coffee notes and a bit on the thin side really. Bitterish finish. Pretty standard fayre.

Cask (handpump) @ Marble Arch, Manchester, England M4.
Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, coffee, peat. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (280708)

A Mes rate: Cask at the Marble Arch.
Almost black body with a thin beige head. Good coffee and bitter chocolate malt aroma. The flavour is a straight forward bitter coffee porter with a lick of unwarranted alcohol in the finish that does it no favours but I’ll pretend I didn’t notice.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Dark brown with no head. I should have guessed with it being sold off at £1:20 per pint. Garbage, tarty, fermented fruit flavours. Impossible to tell whether this was the Brewer or pub at fault, but I can guess.
