COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
A 3.8% pale brown, easy drinking beer. English Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt and wheat malt contributes to a malty aroma with a hint of caramel. The initial roasted malt flavour is balanced by the bitterness and hop character of English Target and Fuggles hops, which linger into the aftertaste.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Festival 06. Amber beer with Pale head. Good easy drinking session bitter, fruitiness in the malt with hints of gooseberry and a restrained hoppy finish giving a floral character. Quite enjoyable.

[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2005] A hazy amber beer with a nice orange head. The aroma is slightly hoppy, but also like walking into a grossery store. The flavor is a dry roasted caramel, leading to a bitter hoppy end.

Cask Stillage at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham 02/04/2005 Golden amber coloured fruity and hoppy. Floral aroma. Some bitterness and dryness in a malt finish.

Cask Conditioned, at the Wenlock Arms, London.
Amber body, clear with a nice frothy white head. Biscuity malts are well rounded and fill the palate out well. Good solid bitter backbone and a punch that is well above its 3.8% ABV.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2011 Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel Northampton. Copper coloured bitter with lots of small bubbles in the head and very little aroma of note. The flavour is reasonably hoppy and long. Not a bad beer at all. (5,3,6,4,13)(3.1)

Re-rateMalt Shovel again . Still hoppy for its weight, perhaps more so and those hops have an orangey sharp feel to them. The aroma is still inferior to the taste, but there’s nothing nasty in the nose. (6,3,8,3,14)(3.4)
Subsequent ratings scored 3.1, 2.9 and 3.6. Average becomes 3.2

Pale brown session bitter. Dispensed slightly hazy. Fruity, with hints of malt and sweetish undertones. Finishes sweet and hoppy with a little bitterness (but not enough in my view). Seemed rather unbalanced to me - perhaps not in peak condition. Handpump, Boat Inn, Stoke Bruerne, November 2003.
