Croak & Stagger is a 5.6% dark, full flavoured beer. This recipe for this chestnut-coloured brew includes American Cascade hops which contribute a sweet and spicy note to the aroma. The use of English Marris Otter pale malt, crystal malt, wheat malt and chocolate malt gives a flavour that is initially roasted and slightly bitter and develops to give a slight hint of dried vine fruits. The flavour of the Cascade hops and bitterness produced by the addition of English Target hops combine to produce an astringent aftertaste. This bottled beer was described as "a cold weather winner" in the Times newspaper of 18th April 1998, when it was rated as joint-second against bottled beers from around the country.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 8/7/2013. Medium brown with a hint of red and a decent, off-white head. Sweetish, caramel, red berry notes, followed by some plain chocolate and liquorice and finishing gently. A good beer.

Bottled: Reddish coloured .Unclear. Beige small head. Sweet and malty with light cocoa notes. Flavour is herbal and has cocoanotes. Roasty and sweet. Is quite full bodied, but a little vague in character. Dry and refreshing with a light bitter touch in the end.

Cask, ’The Joy of Six’ Merchantfest ’08, Rugby. Swigs of Octo’s, to be precise. Yeah, barnyard, mouldering fruit and dessicated frog. Ruby with rapidly diminishing head. Intriguing interplay of beansprout/mushroom earthiness and (strawberryish) hop fruit way back in the mix. A hint of roast, maybe chocolate. ’Interesting’.

Bottled@Chris O Post GBBF tasting. Amber colour, beige head. Aroma is strange sweet notes I can’t lay my finger on, apricot, some mild grass and caramel. Flavour is a bit sour, some hops and nectary sweetness.

From cask at Guildford Arms. Pours clear and deep amber golden with a deep reddish glare. Aroma is fruity and mild acidic to citric. Flavour too is quite citric yet with a solid roasted note. Smooth malty and roasted finish.

Cask, Malt Shovel, N’ton Ruby brown, flavoursome drop. Strong estery aromas and a powerful fruit smack in the mouth. Slightly soapy mouthfeel.

Cask gravity at Rare Breeds BF 06. Deep chestnut with rich fruit aroma. This lasts into the mouth with some choc, some coffee. OK for it’s strength. Good malty fruit of red berry and raisin.

Rough beer, but i quite liked it. Smells like green apples, pear, caramelish and a touch of mango. Tastes completely different, lots of bitterness(off course with all those fruity flavours), bit musty and then caramel and some of those fruits. Long bitter finish ending in a varnish like alcohol kick. Thanks maeib!
