COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Croak & Stagger is a 5.6% dark, full flavoured beer. This recipe for this chestnut-coloured brew includes American Cascade hops which contribute a sweet and spicy note to the aroma. The use of English Marris Otter pale malt, crystal malt, wheat malt and chocolate malt gives a flavour that is initially roasted and slightly bitter and develops to give a slight hint of dried vine fruits. The flavour of the Cascade hops and bitterness produced by the addition of English Target hops combine to produce an astringent aftertaste. This bottled beer was described as "a cold weather winner" in the Times newspaper of 18th April 1998, when it was rated as joint-second against bottled beers from around the country.

Tried in bottle form as ’The official Offie ale’ from Murees off licence in Leicester. When poured it had a massive head which you had to fight through to reach the beer. When you did all you got was dissapointement.Bitter with that acid like edge that cask ales have when they are poorly bottled.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml. Red brown beer with slight head. Particularly malty, thickish beer with dark roasted notes. Some sweetish fruitiness with an astringent background. I found it to be quite a boring beer with few highlights.

Pours brown with little pieces of yeast floating in it. Off-white diminishing head. Sour with aromas of malt and dirt. Lots of hops... in a bad way. A barley wine that went bad.
