Tap. Pours cloudy black with tinges of gold around the edges, small tan colored head that settles out. Aroma is rosted malts, some coffee, some light hops. Flavor is bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Palate is full bodied, mildly carbonated, bitte finish. Very average, needs refinement.

Roasty malts and a light spiciness greet the nose. Opaque black body is topped by a decent, off-white head that lasts well. Fairly roasty, clean, straightforward and enjoyable flavour. Light-medium body is dry and well attenuated with moderate carbonation. Enjoyed on tap outside the brewpub after the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Fest 2005. Thanks to the brewer for opening up his premises after the fest!

Sampled draught at the Frog Island brewery in Ypsilanti, after the Michigan Brewers fest. The story of getting there is almost more interesting than the beer, hell it is more interesting, we wandered around for probably an hour asking locals, beer-fest-goers, and it was just a 10-minute walk away. This was an unspectacular if quaffable stout, pretty dry and a bit harsh, had a sort of unfinished feel to it, perhaps a bit vinous and unfermented but really not a bad stout for a hot summer day. The place was so cool, opened up to all us geeks with free beer and food, that I feel compelled to return some day.
