3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 wheresthepath (1087) - - OCT 25, 2011
[Cask at Milton Keynes Beer Festival 2011] Chestnut coloured (predictably, given the name!) with a negligible off-white head. A treacley bitter, with a crisp crackle of autumn leaves, some woodland mulch and a slight dusty bitterness. Very much a beer to drink as the first frosts start to kick in, so appropriate timing for me on this one! Another decent beer from this brewery, I’ll look out for more from them.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 17, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle, best before 31 Aug 2010, drank 20 Aug 2010, poured into a straight pint sleeve glass. This bottle conditioned beer was a lovely chestnut brown/red, a huge tan coloured head of foaming bubbles sat above the body.
The aroma was a mix of spicey hops (American Cascade) and roasted/toasted malts.
The taste is again a mix of hops (Target) and malts (Pale, Crystal and Roasted). Easy to drink and enjoyable.
My third beer from Frog Island, seems a nice little brewery.

BC. Pours..well, chestnut with a rocky, undwindling beige collar. Juicy English fruit crumble aroma with cinder toffee and a big slug of blackcurrant. Earthy yeast, blackcurrant skins, slight mushroom swirling about; finishes dry and unfussy with hop and roasted nut. Robust, yeasty bitter with big character and a well-judged balance of flavours.

Cask, Cellar Bar, St Andrews. Hazy brown-ruby with a thin off-white head. Aroma slightly soapy, hoppy (frog jokes here at will), some sweet malt. Flavour is quite bitter, sourly hoppy, some floral notes, then below, the malts. Palate is sweet and slightly biscuity. Rather palateable all in all.
