oldrtybastrd (1793), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Mar 2, 2006 On tap @ the Front Street Brewpub. Pours a reddish brown. Caramel malt aromas with a hint of nut. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate with some smokey nut aftertaste. GeneralGao (2628), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Feb 13, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Hazy brown color with thin off white head. Roasty, nutty nose. Dry and nutty flavor with coffee undertones and bitter roasty finish. JMerritt (1120), Macomb, Illinois, USA Nov 20, 2005 Cherry brown in color with a medium-sized frothy white head. Mild roasty malt aroma, some peat and cedar mixed in there. Hop bitterness is surprisingly high for the style, lending a nice spruce/grapefruit mix. However, there seems to be a bit of oxidation going on, as the finish has a stale, cardboard flavor that drowns out some rye bread notes. iamacaktus (4), granite bay, California, USA does not count Aug 4, 2005 Worthless from the bottle, great from the tap. A very aromatic beer. Smells like amazing chocolate and cashews. I’d say it’s slightly thicker than newcastle, but still quite thin. A better than average brown ale off the tap, but not a bitter or daring beer on the palate so if you’re in the mood for something heavy skip out on this one. barleyPops (1066), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Apr 1, 2005 a new beer at Front Street Brewpub. this was the Brewmasters Special on the night I was there. part of a 5 oz. sample and poured a dark chocolate brown with no head. extremely mild flavors for a brown ale, very thin
