On tap @ the Front Street Brewpub. Pours a reddish brown. Caramel malt aromas with a hint of nut. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate with some smokey nut aftertaste.

Had on tap at the brewpub in a pint glass. Was told it was a nut brown but hoppy... but it was far from either. Fine, but quite average, honestly.

On tap at Front Street Brewery. Nothing says mediocre brewery like when your special beer is a brown ale, or some other common style. Since they were out of the cherry wheat, we got two samples of this one, and one of them didn’t taste so good. Time to clean your lines. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, maple, nuts and roasted malt. Taste of roasted malt, caramel, maple, mild vanilla and sweet malt and a touch of citrus. Downtown Brown was the great police chief on the best show ever, Simon & Simon, so props for me being able to pretend you named it after that, lol.

Draught at the brewpub. Hazy brown color with thin off white head. Roasty, nutty nose. Dry and nutty flavor with coffee undertones and bitter roasty finish.

JMerritt (1602) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - NOV 20, 2005
Cherry brown in color with a medium-sized frothy white head. Mild roasty malt aroma, some peat and cedar mixed in there. Hop bitterness is surprisingly high for the style, lending a nice spruce/grapefruit mix. However, there seems to be a bit of oxidation going on, as the finish has a stale, cardboard flavor that drowns out some rye bread notes.

Worthless from the bottle, great from the tap. A very aromatic beer. Smells like amazing chocolate and cashews. I’d say it’s slightly thicker than newcastle, but still quite thin. A better than average brown ale off the tap, but not a bitter or daring beer on the palate so if you’re in the mood for something heavy skip out on this one.
