Hefe-Weizen is a true German-style wheat beer, brewed with a noble German yeast and using wheat grown right here in the heartland. The result is a smooth, refreshing and unique beer.

on tap @ Front Street Brewery / Davenport IA --- Cloudy dark gold color, rim head, splotches of lace. Taste is watery wheat that develops body as it moves through the palate, gathering caramel and malt along the way. The finish introduces lingering light hops and spice. Not a complex beer at all, but it is drinkable.

On tap, poured into a 4oz sampler glass. The aroma is a mellow banana, vanilla, and clove - pretty traditional hefe ntoes, just a bit muted. Itís a cloudy, pale straw colored beer stained on itís surface with a light cloudy, white micro bubble head, a medium thin ring, and a very light lacing. A medium sweetness combines with a medium bitterness for the taste - itís a touch astringent. The texture is creamy, with a soft, bubbly lace, and a medium body. A grassy quality finishes this one with a banana pudding, lemon, and clove spicy note. The aftertaste is bready and spicy with a moderate lingering power.

Too cold for this style but still pretty good. Has a nice lemony wheat aroma from a light gold pour with a frothy head. The taste is smooth with a hint of lemon and a lot of pilsner like malt. Well balanced and very refreshing.

On tap at brewpub, pours a clear golden with no head, there is a slight spiced aroma but the flavor is pretty weak with hardly anything to it, just another average brew.

I had this on tap at the brewpub in a pint glass. I didnít take notes beyond the numbers, but I remember it being pretty average.

On tap at Front Street Brewery. Ultra hazy banana yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of banana, clove and corn. Taste of lemon, banana and corn. The forced carbonation in their beers is getting annoying on sample number three.

On tap at the brewpub: Wow, I wonder if the brewery has changed its recipe since the previous raters sampled this brew? I found this to be a very pleasant hefe, with the right notes of cloves & ínannas. It poured a cloudy yellow with an intiially sizable white head. Good lacing. Nice clove-y aroma. Well balanced taste between the wheat base and "spicy" follwup. Very creamy mouthfeel. I thought this was a pretty good example of the style.
