3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 cbfobes (1734) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Bottle shared by drowland, pours black with a thin brown head and a little bit of lacing in the glass, the aroma has some pine and citrus on the nose, not a huge amount, the flavor has a citrus front end with a roasty finish, nice mouthfeel, not bad.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (8250) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAR 27, 2013
Bottle... RBWGJAX2013… Clear, dark brown pour that flashes crimson when held up to the bright Florida sun. Small, creamy, khaki head. The bouquet consists of overripe red apple, dried dark fruits layered upon hints of chocolate, leather and pine. Full-bodied and creamy with modest carbonation. The flavor is intensely bitter – pine, citrus rind and metal. The malts do little more than provide a solid stage upon which the hops perform. In this case, the hops are a collaboration of thrash metal, black metal and death metal bands. Lengthy, deeply bitter, grassy finish. Big-time thanks to Kevin for providing several of his beers for our three day party in Jacksonville!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TURDFERGUSON (3581) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - MAR 5, 2013
Bottle at RBWG. I think I tried at least 10 different new NC beers that I did not bring. Thanks for sending these, Front Street! I was actually sort of surprised by the recipes and quality of these brews as I kind expected them to be boring and meh. Applaud them for sending beer to some of the toughest beer critics out there and for having the balls to brew some interesting recipes here in NC. Will have to visit next time I’m down that way. Black IPA is a style that I like but I have had very few that I actually enjoy. This one would probably err on the positive side; its not great; but has some nice qualities including a relatively fresh piney and citrus nose. Flavor errs on the roasty side but it’s not as super boozy as I expected.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 drowland (4999) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - MAR 4, 2013
3/4/13. Bottle sent down for RBWG! Thanks! Deep brown, almost black, pour with a small tan head. Pungent dank hop aroma with some citrus and roast. Rich, bitter hop flavor with more dank and citrus, a touch of acidity, and a lingering astringency. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Leighton (7183) - London, ENGLAND - FEB 23, 2013
Bottle at RBWG in the hotel. Pours black-brown with a rich, brown foam head. Nose holds lots of pine, some ripe citrus, mellow roast. Medium sweet flavor, some ripe grapefruit, light roast, dirt. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Pretty resinous to finish, some earth, mellow roasty dark malts, some grapefruits, orange. Not bad.

22oz bottle at RBWG. Earthy aroma, hops and dirtiness. This this quite nice bit way too much grittiness.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Drake (6600) - Ivy, Virginia, USA - FEB 23, 2012
Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear very dark brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and earthy notes. The taste is roasted malts with citrus and tropical hops. Medium-full bodied, a bit of booze and the hops linger. Decent.
