COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A beer named for Ernest Hemingway’s favorite drink. Close friends and family affectionately referred to Hemingway as “Papa”. The original Papa Doble was served at a Cuban bar called the Floridita. It was a daiquiri drink that had Double the alcohol. Our version of the Papa Doble is a bit different. Rather than mixing ice, juices and liquor we mix loads of Pale malt with hot water. Then add 40 lbs of American hops. This ale is all about the hops. Hops used are Nuggest, Cascade, Ahtanum and Willamette. This Double IPA is a hop heads dream beer for sure.

Bottle... Clear orange ale with golden flashes and a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Fantastic retention. The aroma offers spicy, herbal and floral notes. Full-bodied and creamy with tingly carbonation. A very nice malt backbone serves as the stage upon which loads of heavily bitter, rindy hops really shine. Lengthy, bitter, lightly salty finish. Bottle courtesy of Kevin Kozak from Front Street Brewery.

Bottled shipped by the brewery for RBWG. Amber orange pour with a small khaki head. Resin, pine, and loads of citrus. Flavor follows suit. I dig it.

funny, papa doble is what i call my priest .. . deep amber .. . solid foam aspects .. . easy on the hops, mild bitterness .. . a good brew, but nothing i’d seek out again .. . . is james franco a real person?

Bottle at RBWG late night tasting. Deeper golden orange with a small fizzy white head, some sticky lace. Nose is big and resinous, almost sappy, lots of sweeter caramel malts, and a light booziness. Flavor is more of the same--lots of resin, lightly cheesy, toffee, caramel, more boozy hops. Sweet and resiny and top my favorite take on the style.

Pours a hazy amber. Nice piney resiny smell. Aggressively hopped, very fresh tasting. Nice clean pale malt. I dig this one.

Bottle at RBWG hotel session. Pours clear gold with a fine, white foam head. Ripe citrus and melon on the nose. Medium sweet flavor, some bitter pine and toasty grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Resinous dry pine finish, light dry caramel, earth. So so.

Bottle at RBWG. Nothing strong on the nose. Dirt and malt. Very earthy, almost gritty. It’s not too bad at all.
