COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American style India Pale Ale. If you like hops you’ll like this beer. Large amount of American hops give this ale a great citrus hop profile and large amounts of Vienna malt were used to create balance.

Pours a golden color with a white head. Has some lacing. Has strong hints of hops. Finshes light bodied with a bitter piney hop taste.

As ’Port City IPA" at the 2007 Hickory Hops. Clear copper, niced sized beige head. Clean, crisp resiny aroma. Very refreshing. Fairly piney at first, and a bit of smoke in the end. Dry, earthy finish.

"Port CIty IPA" pours a dirty straw color with a tiny head. The appearance saddens me, but then the other characteristics more than make up for it. Intense aromas of piney grapefruity hops. Subtle grassiness. Quite enjoyable; I could smell this for hours on end. Smooth IPA with pine-drizzled grapefruit; dry-hopped I would bet with all the hops lingering on the palate. Ample bitterness. An excellent drinker. If need be, I would drive the 4 hours to Wilmington just for this beer.

Growler courtesy of kp sampled on 1/4/07: Pours a transparent copper orange with a thin wispy white head. Fresh grapefruity hoppy aroma has a touch of sweet grainy malt. Body starts with a nice caramel malty sweetness balanced with a refreshing grapefruity hoppy flavor. A nice, very drinkable IPA.

Medium amber/brown color, slight citrusy pine aroma. Good balance between malt and hops. Nice IPA with a solid bitter finish.

Light amber yellow color with white head. Not much of an aroma slightly hoppy. Flavor is bitter grassy hops.

Growler. Poured a clear copper color with a small off-white head. the aroma was made up of a hoppy citrus and caramel malt mix. Some perfumey notes as well. The flavor had a malty front with a modderately hoppy middle to finish. Citrus and pine make up the long and moderately bitter finish.

From the new opening of FSB. Comes out with a brownish dark yellow color pour. Small white head. Smell is hops, floral aroma, some grass, a touch of grapefruit. Taste is smooth and intreguing, rich and not too bold on the hops. Very smooth IPA that could easily become a session beer. Not bad at all.

Vacation 8-05. Golden color, lasting white head. Nice floral hop nose, very smooth and full on the palate with a refreshingly bitter finish that lingers.

More of a pale ale, very thin, not overly good, when you see an IPA on the beer list, you jump for joy, but here, you leave disappointed. There is some hop bitterness, and it is drinkable, just not great, especially for an IPA.
