3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the brewpub. Dark black with a small, light brown head. Aroma is pretty much straight roasted malt, a bit of bitter coffee, light chocolate milk. But no vanilla to speak of in the nose. There is a faint touch of vanilla and oak sweetness in the flavor, which is accompanied by light coffee bitterness. Carbonation level is a bit too sharp for me. Roast and coffee notes are more pronounced than I would expect from a vanilla porter. Vanilla is so subdued that it may as well be left out. Would work better as a stout on the menu - otherwise it needs more vanilla and a bit more cocoa smoothness. On tap in August, this may be old, old, old?

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This has a nice bit of vanilla in the aroma and taste. It is subtle and not at all overpowering. Very nice for sipping by the fireplace on a cold evening.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Delicious porter with strong aroma and hints of vanilla flavor. Flavorful beer with a nice almost sweet chocolatey after taste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On Draught at Front Street in Davenport.
Pours a basically black color with a small but well retained head.
The aroma is sweet, some molasses, a little roast, certainly some vanilla in there as well.
The flavor is rich, some tobacco, a good bit of roastiness, & some not too overbearing vanilla. The beer is only mildly sweet and at no point seems over-vanilla-ed or artificial tasting.
This exceeded my expectations for sure.
