To someone brought up on dour British lager, any interesting nuance in style is usually a good thing. Like your bog standard UK brews, I think Kolsch is a beer to sup nice and cold on a sunny day, rather than to sip gently and analyse every aspect of its taste. In that context, this is really good. It’s crisp and drinkable, with tangy malt and fruit flavours alongside a grassy nose. Not too light, not too carbonated. No head whatsoever from my bottle, but it’s a healthy looking clear straw colour. Liked it.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a stange. The appearance was a golden yellow color with a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Barely any lacing was there. The smell had some light sweet fruits with a gentle balance from the hops. The taste was sweet and light. On the palate, this one sat pretty light and came across pretty sessionable. Carbonation was there but not overbearing. Overall, nice Kolsch that I would have again.

Malty aroma with citrus. The taste is the same. Malty with mild citrus. Bitterness in the aftertaste is thin and sits down low in the upper part of the mouth briefly. I liked the beer anyway. But still mediocre. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

500ml bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£2.80):
Like a lager on the nose with some light, sweet malts a& hints of floral, some grassy hops feature too but the aroma isn’t the most pronounced. Plenty of grain, some further sweetness & some bread with touches of yeast in there as well.
Very light & clear, golden straw with a thumb-sized, bubbly head that’s white with a fine texture, lots of visible carbonation and good retention.
Light malts with touches of sweetness coming through & some bread as well. Quite a lot of grain is present, there is some faint floral flavours & fruit with some citrus but again nothing is particularly strong.
The beer is a light bodied, almost thin one with some grain & medium carbonation. It proved quite easy to drink with light bitter finish that is slightly tangy as well.

Very similar to a pale lager in a lot of ways & I wasn’t particularly impressed with this one really. It was a drinkable beer & it’s always nice to get a new style under my belt but I didn’t think it was a great beer really.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Smell of pilsner malt and water. Pours pale yellow clear colour with a small white head. Taste is bland but very drinkable when hot outside, dosen’t really taste much but does not taste bad. Palate is thin. Overall an beer which can be drunk in large volumes.

Bottle, best before 2015-03-07. Clear yellow with a medium sized white head. Dry grass, flowers, light dusty, grain. Light/medium body, watery texture, medium carbonation, light sweet and light/medium bitter. Light bitter and dry finish. Crisp and refreshing, could drink a few of these in the sun.
