On tap at the Brauhaus itself, Cologne, 19th Aug 2010. Clear gold. Quite fresh and light. Stronger nose than some of the other kolsch, but not the best.

0.5l Bottle. Pours a light yellow with a fizzy but quick dissipating head. Aroma is slight but made up mostly of wheat and malt. Taste is crisp and slightly sweeter than most Kölsch I’m familiar with. The wheaty flavors follow through into the back end leaving a sweet and bready aftertaste. This is a middle of the road Kölsch.

Cask at the Früh Am Dom pub. I think I had six glasses of this before I realized I was even feeling it. The color is the seemingly typical light gold and the head is good and creamy but not rock-stable. The nose comes of as a touch sulphery at first, but brings in a nice balance of fruity and floral esters. Malt is also present in the aroma, with a very deep and rich character of pils malt. The flavor leans a little more toward malty and sweet and has just enough balancing bitterness, though it is probably higher in BUs than it comes off because of the smoothness of the bittering. Mostly lighter in hop flavor, but a little herbal spice comes in at the end. Nice fullness to the body, though still light and dry in the finish and well-conditioned with tight bubbles. A very pleasurable and easy to drink kölsch.

Bottle, 50 cl. Blonde-golden beer with small white head. Aroma of malts and grains, light hops also. Taste is grainy, hoppy and light bitter in the aftertaste. Nice beer for this style!

bottle, my first ’kölsch’-styled ale. Nice yellow coloured beer with foamy head.Smell: some punchy grassy smell. Taste: refreshing, yeasty and malty hints. Nice one but has no spectacular palate.

Golden color with head that disappears quickly. Mild carbonation. Taste is bland, mild bitterness that leaves almost no aftertaste. Perhaps fun to drink in large groups with no expectations.
