From the recipe by Peter Josef Früh of the family brewery, this top-fermented specialty beer features the best ingredients and is brewed according to the German Purity Law. A favorite beer of Cologne, which became one of the city’s original.

[bottle at Barfuß in Marburg] Clear straw color with fuzzy white top. Gentle aroma of German hops and crisp malt and maybe just dectable fruit. A bit weak in the flavour, but probably exactly what a Kolsch should be. Light body and medium carbonation. Quaffable.

Thanks to James for bringing this bottle back from Germany. Pours with a big white head. Crystal clear and brillant. Nose of malt, and hallertau hops, metallic, slight oxadaion. Flavor is slightly fruity and dry w/ noble hop flavor i.e. grassy and herbal. Water seemed very menerial driven. Finished dry, disaperaing from the palate quickly. Went well with my brats and mash potatoes.

(0.33 L Bottle) One of the better Koelsch beers I have tried. Aroma and appearance are not really out of the ordinary compared to similar beers. The beer has a lot more flavor compared to others like it. Tastes sweet when it hits your lips, but the aftertaste is well balanced with the hops dominating at the end.

A very intresting beer. Aroma grasps you with corn to start with but as it goes on the grassy herbal hop character builds nicely. Taste is fruity with a good amount of bittering hops. One to try again foresure.

A light, yellow, golden beer, with a thickish white head. A very discreet, slightly floral, hoppy aroma with a hint of sweet malt. The taste is dry and hoppy, and again, this is followed by a slightly sweet, maltiness, similar to that of “Caramalz” for example. The finish is slightly dry and has both the hop and malt elements.

Kölsch isn´t one of my favorite styles as it always seems abit plain, and flavorless, like American lagers, bud, miller etc. but this one was pretty good for me, it had more flavor than other kölsch biers I´ve had, abit of bitterness too, I´d drink it again, nothing great, but an ok drinker.

Bottle. Poured a golden color with a short lasting head. Malty aroma with a bitter hop taste. I guess I’m told I like the bitter beers, and this one was pretty good too.

Native beer to Köln, but I can pick it up in the are trinken marts (drink store) in racks of 24 (1ltrs). Reminds me of a smooth style pils. Has nice flavor and kick. My favorite German beer to pick up for parties.

Draught at Delirium Cafe. Dark yellow with a white head, almost diminishing, excellent lacings. Aroma moderate malty and hoppy. Flavor moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter. Light body, watery, lively carbonated.
