From the recipe by Peter Josef Früh of the family brewery, this top-fermented specialty beer features the best ingredients and is brewed according to the German Purity Law. A favorite beer of Cologne, which became one of the city’s original.

Bottle: fruity (orange), a bit dusty aroma and flavor. A hint of herbal hoppiness. Rather thin. Herbal hoppy aftertaste. Pleasant beer, but I had it from tap 6 years ago at P.J. Früh's in Cologne and the beers does taste much better there.

Bottle. My first Kolsch. Even though this has a long tradition the brewers of Cologne altered the style after WW1 to compete with the popularity of lager, as such, despite it being a top fermenting ale, it comes across as a light lager. Delicate, slightly oily fruit aroma. Soft as toilet tissue mouthfeel, with a light fruit flavour. Soft and refreshing is the key to this style. Quite pleasant.

Slightly sourish and bitter. Even better than the Sester Kolsch, but only by a smidge. A nice bouquet aroma and crisp taste.

stawberry aroma, golden hue with a small white head, fruity, a nice mix of malts and hops, hoppy dryness in the finish, a flavoursome Kolsch

Flowery aroma and pils like appearance. Citrus and flora flavour, this is a great kolsch. Creamy malt background and elegant balancing dryness of hop. Smashing!

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2006 Tap@Früh am Dom. Light herbal nose. Fruity malt base. Citric finish. Grainy and fruity aftertaste. Medium chewy body. Was well worth trying from tap - Kölsch on bottles just doesnt work.

Clear pale yellow with thin but tall white head. Not as smooth or creamy as Sion, and it doesn’t have quite the same bite at the end either. A perfumy nose with a general crispness all the way through before a full, sweet finish.

I’ve had better Kölsch. Grainy, dusty nose, pale gold color and a fluffy head. Odd fruityness. The balance is just off. Light, thin.

Hoppy, grainy, pappery aroma. Golden with a medium diminishing head. Soft carbonation. Grainy traste, a bit like marcipan (?), Metallic finish.
