A fresh, light and decent Kölsch for a warm summer day. Can also be drunk in masses of small glasses in Cologne - in fact I highly recommend this.

On cask @ Früh am Dom. Clear pale yellow with a medium dimishing white head and little lacing. Aroma is herbal with light fruitiness, biscuity malt, light citrus and metallic notes. Taste is also quite herbal with light fruitiness, cereals, light cereals notes and metallic presence. Medium body (a tad heavy for the style), moderate carbonation. Not super refined. Not horrible, but a bit metallic and it suffered a lot from the comparison with the incredible Päffgen Kölsch I had just before.

(Bottle) From State Line Liquors, MD. Nearly all Kolsch’s taste more or less similar to me. This one I think I liked slightly less than average, but I still enjoyed it. It was perhaps a tiny bit too heavy for me, which was odd because of the low-ish alcohol content. Malt had a slight sourness to it, which I disliked, but it was only slight. Nice hops...moderate bitterness, and the nature of the bitterness I found very enjoyable. Would drink again and wouldn’t be a bad choice if I wanted this style of beer and no others were available.

On tap at Fruh. Blond pour with white head. Aroma is metallic and fermented grain. Taste is grainy and caramel. Palate is too heavy and sticky for the style. Disapointing.

500ml bottle served in a Pilsen glass. A: Pours a pale and very clear yellow color forming a medium, bubbled and very aired white head that dissipates quickly leaving only few spotty lacings in the glass S: Very grainy as expected. Strong notes of sweet malts and bready yeasts. Liquid bread. Very crispy. Earthy yeasts and some flowery hops in the end T: Follows the nose. Slightly sweet upfront. Strong notes of sweet malts. Very bready and crispy. In overall, a dry taste followed by a light hops bitterness M: Light body and medium carbonation. Crispy malty aftertaste O: Quite drinkable. Real German stuff... Soft aromas of grain, fruit, and hints of sulfur. A clear straw hue with a non-lasting white head and moderate lacing. The taste is a nice blend of soft malt and subtle fruit flavors. Medium-light body and moderate carbonation. smooth mouthfeel - dry finish.Overall, one of the better Kolsch’s I’ve sampled.

Pours clear gold with a thick white head. Aroma has light grass and soapiness with some straw. Flavor has nice spicy and grassy hoppiness with mild straw but not too much malty sweetness. Mouthfeel is light / medium and the finish is clean and dry lingering with grassy/earthy bitterness.

Can from Cornelius as part of my German beer education. Very pale straw, crystal clear, good white head. Grassy aroma, reminds me of a whisky distillery tour with the malts. Lowish carbonation, sweet and malty. Little bitterness. Very refreshing.

I had this beer in Brauhaus Fruh by the cathedral in May. The beer tastes better served in “Stange” and I think that is the only way to keep the head. I tried Fruh at home but couldn’t replicate the same flavour. I will try serving in narrow glass next time. Light golden colour with subtle hop. Crisp flavour, not too gassy hence easy to drink. Aftertaste disappears quickly.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 6C). Bottle 50 cl - Batch 11816:27. AROMA: slightly sweet cereal aromas. no hop aromas. slight esters reminiscent of pears. APPEARANCE: slightly light gold color and very translucent. thin white head with average retention. TASTE: low malty sweet flavour. very low bitterness. no hop flavours. PALATE: low and watery body. low carbonation. OVERALL: a watered down Kolsch without the characteristic subtle fruit flavours.
