Draught at Lord Hobo, 8/23/15.
Probably one of the last beers I was expecting to see that night. Tried to find this for a long time back in the day as it’s got quite the hype surrounding it (not so anymore, it seems). Lovely ruddy-auburn body shows good clarity and a light beige head with good retention.
Clean yeast in the nose allows light fruit esters (apples, berries) and there’s a touch of toasted malt, sourdough and dry toffee. A pepperiness is the extent of the hop character, but the beer being moderately dry on the malt side dosent require any more. No flaws, no alcohol.
Lightly bitter, peppery hops, again, with soft, playfully fruity notes from the medium malts and yeast ending on a slightly toasted malt note and some light salinity. Dry, overall, but there are certainly glimpses of finely extracted malts, giving off just bits and pieces of caramel and honey. Ample carbonation and a lightly grainy body. The salty/seltzery notes are a bit odd, but quite minimal and otherwise this is a very well-brewed, elegant, very understated beer.

At at asting, thanks Erzengel, medium stable bubbly head, clear light brown color, with lots of copper hues, aroma of caramel and hay, flavor of caramel and dark fruit with a hint of toasted bread and dark honey, light bready sourness, light to medium quite pleasant bitterness. Good and easy to drink.

Tap at brewpub. Clear amber color, decent off-white head, some lace. A bit metallic, malty aroma. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Grassy-spicey hoppyness, light caramel but this is quite hoppy alt. Has also some "craft twist".

12 oz. bottle. It pours a clear, dark amber color with an off white head. The aroma is really enticing with rich notes of bread crust, toast, earthy hops, fig and light malt syrup. The flavor has a good balance of toast, bread crust and earthy floral hop flavor and bitterness. Mild cherry and fig-like fruity notes throughout, but finishes dry and with a strong, earthy bitterness. Clean. A really nice example of what an Alt should be.

Well, I suppose if I wrote comments about Alt-Bier from Duesseldorf, they wouldn’t be neutral. I just love the Alt-Bier from Duesseldorf. They are simply next to none. So, I judge all the beers from "Altstadt Duesseldorf" equally.

Smells like a smoked ham. Clear deep brown color. White head. Like iced tea with a head. Super smooth light roasted malts roll right through slight hop bitter riding on its back.
