A rock solid doppel, losing a few points with a thinnish body of slight 1 - Dmensionality. Quite rich and traditional - toffee, chocolate powder and smores. Fairly straight forward and drinkable.

Dark brown color; medium sized head, with little retention. The aroma is mild, with Munich malt. Reasonable body strength; caramel and mildly roasted malts flavor, some chocolate in the finish; light oxidisation; correct bitterness. It has a good caramel and malt imprint. Not bad.

Pours a murky dark brown color with a thin beige head. Aroma of malt and fruits. Good flavor of slightly roasted malt and fruits. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. Interesting.

[2221-20090605] Sample. Mild sweet malt aroma. Dark brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Sweet grainy malt flavour, heavy and thick. Medium-full body. Nice, a bit boozy sweet but fair.

In short: A typical by-the-book sweet Doppelbock. Good brew even if unexceptional.
How: From the bottle at Montreal Mondial de la Bière 2009
The look: Dark brown body topped by a small beige head
In long: A whole lot of cereals swimming in sticky toffee. Toasted bread crust with caramel. A little roasted nuts notes and a slight earthy sensation. Sweetness level is somewhere between moderate and high, a little too sweet for me but that often happens with the style. Minimal hops presence. I like my doppelbocks a little less sweet but this is a standard representation of the style that will please all doppelbock fans. A good brew from the land of the rising sun, a few minutes a day, if you are looking in the right direction at the right time.

Mondial 2009. Dude pouring probably poured me 2/3 of the bottle for $4!! haha. Pours a slightly hazy woody brownish orange with a nice lasting big head. Aroma is nutty deep toasted malts, earth, light yeasty notes, ligth herbal hops, some paper and rope but good. Flavor is full big malts, munich, lots of toast, some earthy yeast, rope, light meatiness, and a warm bready biscuit-vienna malt character and a somewhat clean bittering finish. Smooth and pretty solid for a doppelbock.

Mondial 2009. Dark colour with beige head, stouty looking. Lacey.Neutral aroma. Was getting more malt than anything else, including of course chocolate malt.

Appearance: dark brown with neat ruby light shine, creamy top, good lace shown.
Nose: sweet malts with roasted character, chocolate , dark molasses.
Flavor/Palate : medium bodied with some carbonation. Brown malts , caramel and bit of alcohol. Thinner finish. Woody top. Good bock.

2009-06-05. Very dark brown body is near black, modest beige head has a bit of lace. Aroma is mild but pleasant, moderate malts are a touch muted. Flavour is similar, with a sweet malty core, drier notes of malt in the finish is the lasting impression. (7+) Average plus palate. (3+) Simple but very enjoyable. Bottle at Mondial 2009, Montreal

Bottle, Mondial 2009. Dark brown with a medium sized fizzy head. Aroma is lots and lots of dark fruits, blackberries, raisins and a small hint of hops. Taste is raisins and black fruits. Quite sweet. Some alcohol but not much. Very good beer. Thanks to MartinT for the suggestion !!
