Draught at Bungalow. Dark brown colour with off-white/red head. Aroma has strawberry with some cherry blossom. Flavour has burnt malts with floral notes to give a smooth feel. Doesn’t taste like 8%.

dfearnley (820) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 6, 2013
Draft to pint glass Chocolate, sweet malt, asuki bean, and cherry. Dark brown with a thin, but long lasting light tan head. This is sweet, too sweet for my tastes, and it needs some hops to balance it out.

Ferris (2889) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 6, 2013
Draft - Roast malts, prune and a bit of sourness. Jet brown with a rich but thin brown head. Almost flowery, dark malts, molasses and some dark fruit. A nice example of the style.

Wombata (365) - Kobe, JAPAN - MAY 18, 2013
Aroma: malt, milk chocolate, cola, hint of molasses, coffee. Flavor: malt, caramel, intense cola, milk chocolate, yeast. Finishes with coffee and cola. Comment: rich full-bodied, good carbonation gives it some added complexity and lift so it does not come across as heavy.

On tap at Bungalow, it poured a dark reddish amber black with a very minimal off-white head. The flavor was port like with a mild caramel sweetness. It had a great body and was smooth for 8% which wasn’t so noticeable. Flavorwise it wasn’t so complex possibly due to being served too cold or because my tastebuds were overloaded after a 9-course dinner! All in all a well done beer as I expect from Fujizakura.

On tap at Bungalow, Kyoto. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with a small beige head and lacings. Sweet with lots of caramel. Also hints of roasted malts. Soft carbonation. Medium to full bodied.

maekchu (1943) - Hirakata, JAPAN - APR 22, 2012
On tap at Qbrick. Complex aroma: yeasty, funky, manure, and honey. Very dark Coca-Cola brown. Sweetish and smooth, with a mild aftertaste. Medium body, mild carbonation, very satisfying. Maybe really a weirded up doppelbock. Tasty stuff.
