Dark brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Sweet grainy malt flavour, heavy and thick. Medium-full body. Nice, a bit boozy sweet but fair.

How: From the bottle at Montreal Mondial de la Bière 2009
The look: Dark brown body topped by a small beige head
In long: A whole lot of cereals swimming in sticky toffee. Toasted bread crust with caramel. A little roasted nuts notes and a slight earthy sensation. Sweetness level is somewhere between moderate and high, a little too sweet for me but that often happens with the style. Minimal hops presence. I like my doppelbocks a little less sweet but this is a standard representation of the style that will please all doppelbock fans. A good brew from the land of the rising sun, a few minutes a day, if you are looking in the right direction at the right time.

Pours a slightly hazy woody brownish orange with a nice lasting big head. Aroma is nutty deep toasted malts, earth, light yeasty notes, ligth herbal hops, some paper and rope but good. Flavor is full big malts, munich, lots of toast, some earthy yeast, rope, light meatiness, and a warm bready biscuit-vienna malt character and a somewhat clean bittering finish. Smooth and pretty solid for a doppelbock. Sammy (4070), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Aroma is mild but pleasant, moderate malts are a touch muted. Flavour is similar, with a sweet malty core, drier notes of malt in the finish is the lasting impression. (7+) Average plus palate. (3+) Simple but very enjoyable. Bottle at Mondial 2009, Montreal Fred82 (408), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Aroma of roasted malt, lots of coffee too, deep auburn, small toffee head. Taste is tangy malt, roasted nuts, burnt toast. Medium bodied, full flavoured, bitterness is wild. Terrific!
