IslandHaole (1026), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Nov 8, 2006 Another “Fume Blanc” looking sake, has that touch of straw color to it.
Light melon and koji scent. A dry sake with vinous, oak and earthy flavors. A light grainy sweetness up front with a cashew flavor in the middle and a dry finish with a scant alcohol follow. My first sake from Ishikawa-ken. An interesting, different style than what I’m used to up here in the north.
BückDich (4497), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 29, 2006 300mL Bottle from IslandHaole: Nice frosted bottle with a cool peel off plastic top covering the screw cap. Pours a relatively beige color with nice legs. The nose is fairly typical of these junmai ginjos with some anise and melon. The flavor is a bit different with some strong koji, minerals and dusty alcohol. A bit strong in acidity and dryness, but the nose is good. Finishes a bit flat and tangy. It doesn’t quite has that nice freshness or umami that I like. A bit strong tasting too, especially for the low alcohol. Thanks Dan!
