Cask conditioned at Harbury Beer Fest ’09. Deep black with tan head. The good people at Full Mash have come up with a cracker here, a view into the dark side and a very special mild. Bitter and fruity at the same time with blackberries and licorice in equal measure. Quite heavy for a low ABV with crusty roasted flavours. Excellent beer.

Cask at the Lion, Basford. This inky black beer has an enticing roast aroma and a smooth texture with a nice rounded flavour of coffee and roast and malt. Very nice.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Marble Arch Inn. Opaque jet black, a thin but excellent tan head, some lace and in very good condition. Aroma is bloody awesome. Rich dark chocolate malt, loads of burnt toast and a huge slew of fresh black coffee. Rubbery, inky, a lovely bitterness on top and just about all I could want for a mild. Flavour is not quite so amazing but it’s still superb. All that is so good about the aroma is here but the rubber and burnt toast come to the front. Incredibly roasty, no doubt a little too much for some bit I love it. Excellent bitter notes from the coffee. Stunning length in a whirlwind of a roasty, chocolate and fruity malt finish, eventually settling on a lingering minerally charcoal. F**kin’ excellent mild with a full on stout character but incredibly drinkable. This is definitely one of the special ones.
