UPDATED: JAN 24, 2012 Fresh coffee aroma, thin head mahogany bodied porter with chocolate, and roasted malts. Coffee resonates in aroma and flavor, however, for the plenty o’ malts listed on the label the body was thinner than expected. I’ll pile on by saying the porter’s name is dumb and label is cheesy. Proof to me that much of the Commonwealth is stuck in the 90’s.

Bottle. I was surprised at the low rating by ratebeer for this one. I liked it a lot, and I’ve tasted far worse excuses for a porter (Yuengling). Coffee, strong scent of coffee, with a roasty malt finish. Brown/black pour with a white ring. Thick/medium bodied, silky feeling, crisp finisher. Nuts and earthy flavors up front with a coffee, roasty finish. Delicious.

Pours black with foamy tan head. Astringent coffee roast with chocolate and coffee. Chocolate, a huge coffee. Alcohol and astringency. Meh.

12 oz bottle: This one pours a fairly opaque darker brown color. There was a small tan head that didn’t linger long or leave much in the way of lacing. The aroma is good. Coffee and chocolate malt are predominate. Some hops are in there too, but they are hard to determine exactly what they are. The taste is very good. Fair amount of the coffee on to, with some chocolate malts in the background. Dryness to the finish. Lots of hops being hidden back there. Nice. Definitely helps to be a coffee lover for this one!

Dark brown with a thin tannish color head. Roasty malt with a strong coffee and cocoa flavor. Not too heavy, but smooth and full.

Poured a clear, dark brown with a light brown head. Coffee is the most abundant smell, with hints of chocolate and toast. Roasted flavor. Medium bitterness. Thin on the palate and very dry on the finish. Not recommended but I wouldn’t avoid it either.

Dark brown almost black color with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. Excellent coffee flavor with hints of roasted malt, wheat, and a chocolate ending. Nice beer.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of LIVEFAST. Another cool bonus from Alan! Thanks! Deep brown appearance with a brown head. Roasty, acidic, coffee, deep chocolate malty aroma. Roasty dark chocolate malty, acidic coffee flavor leads to a tangy tart fruitiness. Light nuttiness. The coffee flavor is a little messed up which kind of ruins the beer. I’d like to try it again if they get this figured out.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, coffee, roasting, hops, and pine. Poured very dark brown in color with a small, creamy, dense, tan head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of malt, roasting, coffee, hops, pine, and a hint of cocoa. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt, coffee, roast, hop, pine finish.

Not sure the low score on this one. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, roasted malts. Medium, carbonated body. Flavor has plenty of coffee, cocoa, light malts, and a healthy dose of citrus hops. Fun.
