Surprisingly good bourbon barrel aged beer. Great balance for the style. Not sure how available this beer is, or the cost, but I’d search out some more.

355 mL bottle from the brewery. Pours dark, dark brown with a small tan head. The head slowly dissipates, but laces nicely. The aroma and flavour are similar, and surprisingly complex, with chocolate, spice, anise, and booze. Good body. Great beer.

Pours an opaque brown with a tan head that leaves some lacing. Less whiskey in the aroma than expected a little light roast and chocolate. Flavor is your typical stout with some rye towards the finish. Maybe I got an over carbonated batch? Super light and very fizzy for the style. There’s not much going on with this beer it’s kind of a let down, and $16 for a four pack is outrageous. Much prefer something like clown shoes garden state rhapsody which is $14 for a bomber. Disappointed.

Picked this up at a take out place. First time I ever heard of it or the brewery. 12 oz bottle chilled and served in a tulip glass. Aggressive pour. Three finger fluffy head is rather slow to dissipate. Heavy lacing. Beer is very dark, basically black. Head is tan in color. Aroma is primarily malty with some notes of toffee and nuts. Taste is medium sweet with a touch of bitterness near finish. Malty notes of coffee, nuts and toast. Some hoppy resin notes. Some earthy notes also. The high alcohol percentage does not stand out in the flavor. This is a full bodied beer with light carbonation. I think the rye adds a touch of sweetness and a slight bite. Not as smooth as some other barrel aged bourbons Over all a tasty complex beer. The use of rye whiskey barrels adds just enough twist on the style without staying into left field. Very enjoyable.

Pour is black with a good bit of tight coffee colored head. Nose is dry chocolate cake, faint whiskey note, moderate roast, hint of fudge. Flavor follows suit, whiskey is very light, dry chocolate cake, soft creamy feel, nicely carbonated, a bit of fudge and roast through the finish. A hint of sweetness, roast lingers in the finish.

This was poured into a mini snifter. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thin tan head that dissipated within less than twenty seconds. Speckled lacing clings and falls adequately. The smell has a wonderful combination of spicy rye to blend into some chocolate and coffee. Light sweetness runs about to entice a light vanilla to even show its face. The taste was slightly sweet with the roast to also allow a nice little bit of rye spice. There’s a sticky sweet and semi-spicy rye aftertaste to lead into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium to heavy on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation seemed good for the style as it seems to have a nice smoothness to it. Overall, this was a well crafted Imperial Stout and to add the rye whiskey was a nice touch. If I had another, I’d love to age one.

Bottle @ home. Thanks, Jake. Just about black in color with a small off-white head. Graham cracker, roasted malt, and some dark chocolate. A little bit of dark fruits. Flavor is kind of sweet and chocolatey. Sweet vanilla, oak, and cocoa powder. A touch on the bitter side.

12 Fl. Oz bottle. Poured dark (almost black) brown, small brown head and nice lacing all over the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, wood and some chocolate. Creamy texture and medium body; taste is a nice combination of rye, dark fruit, roast notes and a touch of bourbon. Alcohol is actually quite well hidden making it a very drinkable beer; not bad at all.

How could one argue about this one? Dark and rich with the rye balance and backing. Hides the 11% well as its not too boozy.
