This distinguished ale was brewed in the colonial tradition of using molasses and spruce tips in place of flavor hops to give the beer its unique flavor.

Luminous orange body with vigorously carbonated body with bubbles moving like swarms of violently buzzing bees--all topped by an airy, rock cream colored head. Soothingly gentle aroma of spruce sap. The body is of sweet malt, wintergreen, molasses, and spruce across a mild-mannered malt and hop base. Minty spruce finish, with an occasional cord of bitterness.

Sort off an off-orange color, somewhere in between brown and orange. Aroma is faint. Something like pinecones, oranges, caramel and malt. Flavor is similar. Malty. ABV faked me out..I thought it was near 7%.

Pours hazy orange-amber with a 1-finger off-white head. Aroma combines notes of sweet molasses with a light note of spruce. Medium body, light oily thickness with a dry finish. The flavor is primarily the evergreen spruce, but the molasses gives it a lightly sweet note at the base.

this is a nice tasting brew full with pine dishwater hop and an undistinguished but moderate malt presence and a nice bit of fruit. problem is the brew finishes too short for it’s ample enough flavor.

Pours a hazy amber color with aroma of pine, apple, and grain. Pine, bread, citrus flavor. Decent beer.

Pours quite nice, cloudy Amber with a white head. Downhill from there. A metallic dirty aroma. The flavor follows with dirty wood. No spruce or molasses to be found. Very thin and watery. Not too good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Best by DEC 2014. Nose dark and caramelous, woodsy, pleasant floral and citric qualities, and a sort of dense/pungent spice character. Also some touches of vanilla and cream in the bg. Pours hazy orange with slow carbonation and a tight beige head. Taste sweet and very earthy, very woody with molasses and, yes, spruce. Minty, touch of smoked wood, lightly bitter, very floral and thick sticky maltiness. Really a bold, unique combination here -- reminds of the Heather Ales from Williams, very distinctive and flavorful. Very full body lightly crisp, bit of a n herbal/rubbery character in the finish, but refreshing and interesting!

This one poured a light orange with a white head. Aroma was of caramel, light pine. Flavor was bland and malty, spruce hardly there.

355 mL bottle from the brewery.Hazy rust brown with a film of head. Thin, aroma is mostly malt with a vegetal note. Don’t really get a lot of spruce. Not much in the flavour either, at least not like I expected, anyhow. Some bitterness at the end. The malt is thin and a touch sweet. Not great, this one. Disappointing.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy peach-orange color with a medium sized creamy-soapy orange-white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet caramel and pine needles. The flavor was spruce, pine needles, and had a tangy and sweet undertone of caramel and honey. Medium length tangy finish of spruce and caramel. Moderately full bodied. Ok.
