"this is a pretty good beer. i liked it a tad better than double dead guy (Rogue). Nice biscuity aroma and flavor, good medium body. Very pleasing. A solid effort."

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. I have been cellaring this for awhile. Caramel, toffee, fruity, grape. This is a nice doppelbock.

Bottle, 25th anniv. Pale Doppelbock. Pours clear amber with beige head. Aroma of some burnt caramel and weeds. Flavor is somewhat sweet, malty and a earth hop blended in. Medium mouthfeel with medium-high carbonation. Overall, is good but strikes me as unbalanced and rushed.

Originally reviewed: 4/19/09. Poured into my pilsner glass a deep tawny color with a huge off-white head. Nice ruby tint to this. Very pretty beer. Smells of caramel malts, bread, plum, and earthy tones. Decent. Mouthfeel is really weak on this. I was sorely disappointed. Very wet and slick. This was just too slippery of a drink. No crispness to this at all. Flavor was very malty and bready. Sweet toasted sugar throughout. Finishes slightly sour like sourdough. Well-done. Drinkability was fine enough. I just didn’t dig the mouth on this one. Overall, a fine beer though. Glad I got the chance to try it.

Bottle pours brown with a medium tan head. Very complex nose, wheat, red vinous notes, caramel and toast. Flavor is caramel malt and a nice rich yeast ester finish with mild tartness. Awesome!

A: The pour is a dark amber color, definitely some brown notes and a finger of tan head. S: Pretty much what you expect from a doppelbock with notes of dark fruits such as raisins and plums, cola, and toasted bread. Maybe a touch of molasses and brown sugar. T: Sweet brown sugar, caramel, and molasses. Bread and toasted malt with a touch of roast. Some plums and raisins, perhaps some cherries as well. M: Medium in body with a moderate carbonation. O: Pretty decent example of a doppelbock, especially for one brewed by an American brewery.

Sweet gentle wort aroma, wide scope of roast there. Very dark brown, small head. Lots of flavors here including leather, tobacco, cedar and every roasted malt character in harmony. This makes me very happy!

Pours a thick, two-finger off-white head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Nose is caramel. Cloudy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is sweet toffee and caramel, hops balance but stay in background. 22oz gift bottle from Tigard, OR.
