nutty/toffee nose, dark amber color...pretty thick, lacey head. yeasty & malty flavors, nutty tones and some boozy qualities. a tad sweet...body is somewhat wet but full...decent and to style, just a little wet for my tastes and maybe a bit hot.

22 oz purchased in Santee at Beverages for Less. I like Doppelbocks, but this one was a little weak. Still good. Malts were sweet with molasses brown sugar.

Sparkling dark garnet color when held to the light...a 1/2 inch light tan head. Toffee, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit and molasses in both aroma and flavor. The alcohol is very well hidden and this one is highly drinkable. Very clean...nicely done!!!

Understated but very well done. Sharp, uniform sparkling deep brown liquid. Medium aromas of toffee and apple. The hops are a clean bitter and backgrounded but are come into play in both aroma and in the finish. No oxidized flavors or aromas common to the style in European examples. You can taste the quality malts.

22oz bottle from BevMo Mission Valley. Pours a mostly clear dark brown with a nice beige head. Nose of brown sugar toasted malt and some dark fruits. Brew was very smooth and easy to drink with dark fruit and toasted malts, a great Doppel Bock!

22oz bomber-Dark amber light brown body with a nice tight off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, and fruit. Taste of malt, toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and fruit. This medium to full bodied brew is creamy and finishes with a nice subtle bitterness. This brew hides the 8% ABV very well.

smooth, fruity, malty, but balanced well enough: to style--low hop flavor, but not enough alcohol flavor; notes of spiced caramel apples, dried fruit such as plum; pretty good; could be more boozy and lively to me.

Bottle. Pours clear, deep red-brown with a thin beige head, some lacing. Smells fruity and malty. Medium body for a lager. Fruity apple, spicy, and caramel malt, with a mild hoppy aftertaste. Well balanced and pretty drinkable for being 8% ABV.

RSRIZZO (1847) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - OCT 4, 2008
Aroma is a mild roasted malt scent. Color is a dark amber that leans more to a red. Carbonation is good with a thin tight tan head. Taste is sharp and malty. Starting with a medium body it goes down sharp and crisp. Finish is a bitter malty bite then just a hint of hop flavor and more bitterness. After taste a continuation of the bitterness along with some alcohol. Its an ok brew, its a little rough and not as good as some of there others. I thought they would have made a bolder statement with an milestone brew like this.

Bottle: Pours a dark mahogany color with thick head. The nose is sweet and fruity with a nice chewy crisp caramel note like the topping on a creme brulee. The flavor is well balanced and rounded, a bit thick and boozy, but it works well. Great drinkability for the ABV. Not as complex and fig or berryish as some of the higher end german examples but clean and well made. Nice.
