Pours a thick, two-finger off-white head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Nose is caramel. Cloudy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is sweet toffee and caramel, hops balance but stay in background. 22oz gift bottle from Tigard, OR.

From the bottle: Poured a dark amber with a fairly decent head that dissipated quickly but left some strong lacing. Good aroma…malty and sweet. Good thick mouth-feel. Interesting spice in the taste along with the malt that I was smelling earlier as well as some of that 8% ABV. I’ve not had a lot of doppelbocks but I think this one encouraged me to try a few others to compare.

Wish they’d make this a regular. Great beer all around and a very good value.

Beer poors Dark with a strong tan head. Aroma is of raisin and fig with a nice roasted character. Beer flavor is slightly sweet with a medium bitterness. Palate is not overwhelming, but quite drinkable. Overall beer is great, look forward to picking up another bottle if I see it.

Understated but very well done. Sharp, uniform sparkling deep brown liquid. Medium aromas of toffee and apple. The hops are a clean bitter and backgrounded but are come into play in both aroma and in the finish. No oxidized flavors or aromas common to the style in European examples. You can taste the quality malts.

Pours with an opaque dark brown body topped by a thin to medium thick ehad with some lacing. It is sweet and malty with notes of dark fruit, a light roastiness and some alcohol esters. Medium to full bodied, well carbonated and a touch warming.

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2008 Bomber. Second time I’ve bought this beer, I enjoyed it so much the first time I didn’t bother taking notes as I knew I’d buy it again. And $4 for a bomber? Awesome. The goodness of this beer is a combination of the frothy but light body with a malt-forward, sticky, slightly sweet maple and smooth chocolate malt resins. Malt-heavy, sweetness isn’t overdone, it’s delicate and quiet, turning slightly spicy and peppery in the finish. Just outstanding. I fully admit I’m a Full Sail fanboy, but it’s not simply blind adoration for a hometown favorite, it’s the product of a decade of drinking Full Sail products and developing a real appreciation for their house character, so much that it’s something I look for in other beer but rarely find. So yeah, I’m a fan, but there’s an honest reason why. The house character, the yeast, the body of this doppelbock are all outstanding. I love it.

I am perpetually underwhelmed by just about every Full Sail offering as was prepared to be for this one, given its one of my favorite styles, but they put together a winner of a drink. Big toasted malt backbone with lots of peppery spice notes and small molasses hints. Smooth creamy mouthfeel and a nice spiced hop finish. Really welll constructed drink and the bottle art was wonderful.

Definitely loved the Oktoberfest maltiness of this brew. There was a nutty and caramelly flavor to it. Very rich and full in flavor. I loved it.
