So here we are 25 years later. Very humbled, grateful, and amazed that we got here in one piece. Still a mix of beer geeks and boardheads. Still independent. Still trying to find that perfect balance between art and commerce, work and play, inspiration and perspiration. Thanks for supporting us for all these years, and next time you’re in Hood River, stop by for a beer.

Bottle. Thanks to adnielsen for sharing. Pours a reddish-brown color with white head. Kind of weak aroma of malts and caramel. Alcohol kind of dominates the flavor too much. Also a little tangy, with caramel and malty notes. Not a huge fan of this one.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilburs Fort Collins. Pours a bit hazy, darkish orange appearance with an off white head. Bubblegum, spice, toffee, chewy caramel cookie aroma- a bit odd. Tangy, a bit spicy, weird fruity, chewy yeasty, bready, dull caramel flavor. Bleh.

Moderate head of off white and small bubbles. Kind of a weak aroma with some light sckly sweet malts and vegetal aromas; maybe some squash. Color is a ruddy reddish brown. More malts and roasted grains in the flavor with a hint of caramel and some spices. Not sure I would really call this a dopplebock. Bit of hops presence and a dry pasty bitterness at the finish. Light alcohol presence for a 9% brew. Strange brew to devote to their 25th anniversary. Probably would not try again.

22oz bottle 12/19/12 (Whole Foods-AUS)-40° in Mug-Pours a murky amber with a huge off white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, hops, and roasted malt. Taste of the same with more caramel and slight alcohol. This medium to full bodied brew is well balanced and goes down smooth. Nice brew.

22oz bottle. Clear golden, amber with a thick, dense, khaki head. Aroma of doughy malt, apple cider, fruity esters, herbal tea and alcohol. Flavor is sweet doughy/bready malt, fruity yeast esters and light alcohol. Medium body with a soft mouth feel. This doesn’t seem to lager-like, lots of yeast esters and slightly under attenuated and hot.

Bottle:   Amberish, a little fiery, light carbonation, large frothy off-white head, little lacing.   Soft pale bready nose.   A touch nutty.   Noticeable alcohol up front, not hot, warming, soft breadiness, certainly a malty sucker.   Body and mouthfeel are however, moderate.   Finishes like it started, pale breadiness, malty, also clean.   Not mealy, which is nice, but also not adventerous.   Very much middle of the road.

No bottling information.
Appearance: The body has some chill haze, but is somewhat clear with a darker amber hue to it, there’s a dense tan head that has decent retention and leaves lots of lacing as it dissipates to a nice coating. This is darker than I expected from the name though.
Aroma: The nose has some tasted malts, hints of toffee, caramel and a floral hop presence.
Taste: The intro is of caramel and hints of toffee but the finish is a bit sharp of floral hops and toasted malts. Not bad, but where’s the fruity notes?
Palate: Medium and full-bodied with no carbonation on the tongue.
Overall: This is a really mediocre dopplebock in every way. I don’t recommend this, it’s not even a good value if you’re looking for a cheap buzz.

Pours a clear orange with a hint of red, with a minimal white head. Smells of bread, whole grains, a bit of rye or pumpernickel, caramel. Taste is sweet and mildly bitter, honey, whole wheat bread, mild hops.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Oak Tree, 12/1/12

Aroma: The nose has some caramel/toffee, bready malts, sugar, and a fruity hop presence too
Appearance: It pours a murky looking copper/orange color with an off-white head and medium lace
Flavor: Tastes fairly sweet, malty and kind of sugary, and finally, it has a later fruity hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it feels a little sticky and a bit muddled, with dry finish and a little heat
Overall Impression: Pale doppelbock you say? I don’t know what I’d call it, but it wouldn’t be that. Maybe an American Strong? Yes, American Strong, that seems right. Anyhow, this one has some interesting components, and something about it does work, but at the same time it doesn’t quite all come together, so I’m mixed. Considering all that, this score seems about right...
