While our Cascade Pils is inspired by classic European pilsners, this beer is really a celebration of the fresh, local Cascade hops grown by family farmers right here in our beloved Pacific Northwest. It has intense aromas of citrus and pine, supported by a medium body and dry malty palate. As you savor that unmistakable aroma and long, clean hop finish, tip your hat (and your glass) to the generations of hop farmers who help us live the locavore dream every day. We originally brewed Cascade Pilsner as a special release to celebrate our 26th Anniversary and our Northwest hop growers. It quickly became our fastest growing Full Sail draft beer and our bestselling 22oz. bottle. With that warm consumer response we decided it deserved its own year round six-pack.

Haven’t met a pilsner I love yet, and this is no exception. Pours a clear golden with thin white top. Aroma is promising with a nice bready malt. Pleasingly the hop is mild and herbal. Flavor is okay with some of the malt lending a smooth balance of slight sweet. Finish is semi-dry, peppery and otherwise boring. Perhaps the common element of peppery spice to common pilsners hops is just not for me.

On tap at Angel’s Trumpet. One more of recent west coast hop american pilsners. Quaffable but would prefer more sessionable abv.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of grain and light bread, light to moderate herbs and lemon for the hops, and dried leaves for the yeast, with a note of paper in the background. Head is average size, frothy, white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is sparkling clear gold. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, a bit slick, with a lively carbonation. A tasty, crisp Pilsener.

Bottle from Pacific Grove, CA Trader Joe’s. Gold pour. Aroma of lemon pith and pine. Flavor is pretty dry and slightly and pleasantly bitter. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and lingers on the palate. Carbonation is fine and prickly on the tongue. Body is at a light to medium level.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours clear medium golden color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head fades moderately quickly over time to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a lemon smell mixed with some cracker like aromas and a little bit of a grainy smell. Along with these smells comes some lighter notes of orange citrus and a bit of grass hop. Taste – The taste begins with a crisp cracker taste mixed with a moderate showing of lemon and a bit of a grassy hop. As the taste advances a grainy flavor works its way onto the tongue all while some of the lighter sweetness, that was present from the start, fades even more. Other hop flavors of a citrus and herbal nature join the grass, and with the continued drying out of the taste, one is left with a slightly grainy and dry kind of lightly dank hopped flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is thin with a carbonation level that is rather average. Overall the feel is pretty nice for the crisp nature of the brew and makes of an easy drinking and refreshing brew overall. Overall- A decent pilsner with a little bit more hop then normal. Overall a fairly refreshing and enjoyable brew.
