COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The best selling Amber in the Northwest. It’s a great tasting malty sweet beer that has rich amber hue, a full body, and a spicy floral hop finish. This American style amber ale is brewed with: 2-row Pale, Crystal and Chocolate malts and is hopped with Mt. Hood and Cascade hops

Pours very deep amber with creamy off-white head. Smells of malt, some caramel, and cascades. Nice nutty malt with a noticeable amount of cascade flavor in the finish. Very malty without being too sweet, and the hop balance is done quite nicely.

On nitro tap at the brewery in Hood River, OR. I’ve had the mass produced bottle version many times before, but this is an animal of a different stripe. The nitro charge gives this a smooth mouth feel that is unmatched. Plenty of hops are employed to balance out a strong malt backbone. The nitro delivery makes this amber ale an extra special version of the style.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma is rather malty with some caramel, nuts, toffee and a slight chocolate note. Quite a bit of sweet, toasted bread notes as well. Light pine and grapefruit hop character. Pours a clear, copper-red with a fairly thick, small, tan head that recedes to a thin film on top and along the edges which persists. Medium lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a medium light sweetness with quite a bit of caramel and toasted bread malt notes. Lighter nuts and toffee flavors with faint hints of chocolate. medium light bitterness with light woodsy and grassy hop character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty standard somewhat boring Amber Ale. There is nothing wrong with it, but also not much good about it. I really wish it had a slightly more distinguishable hop note.

On tap at Skewed Brewing. Amber with a small, off-white head. The mild, mild aroma makes it hard to pick out any distinguishing characteristics. At this point it could be a pilsner or a doppelbock. It is certainly not a typical American Amber. Maybe it’s British. The flavour says yes, it’s British. It has that fruity note you get from British ale yeast. There some flavour from earthy hops, but not much bitterness. There is also an odd, sharp note that isn’t particularly appealing. Not my favourite.

Tap at Full Sail in Hood River. Smooth floral and fruity nose: ripe plums and figs. Reddish/copper color. Thin herbal notes jump out right away, fruit, minerals, light roast malt, and slightly sharp fruit finish. Medium body. Tasty stuff. Doesn’t go too far (who really does with the amber style?) Well done. This is one of their best beers, outside of the Reserve series.

12 oz. bottle. Appearance: 2 fingers khaki head, amber color, clear, Aroma: nutty, floral, biscuity, light grass. Palate: light body, average carbonation, slight bitter finish. Taste: light sweet biscuity malt into a mellow bitterness that lasts for just a minute. Overall, drinkable, cheap, and that is mostly it. Nothing super special.

Bottle from Beer Culture in New York September 2013. Solid amber ale that contained a fair bit of maltiness and a long finish. Deep amber with a low head.

Bottle to shaker glass. Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a white head that dissipates quickly. Some hop flavors, but mostly a nice smooth malt layer. Tasty.

Nice amber, smooth drinking. Darker than typical, heavier malt nose with plenty of caramel and biscuit. Flavor follows suit, nothing atypical. Malted caramel flavors with biscuit and medium hop flavors without too much bitterness. Classically drinkable

Cheers!

A little too bitter on the after taste. Pours a clear amber color, great aroma.
